The odds have never been in Lauri Markkanen’s favor. The Utah Jazz star’s basketball journey is filled with unlikely chances. For one, Markkanen belongs to Finland, a country where NBA All-Stars are outnumbered by reindeer nearly 200,000 to 1! However, this did not bother him at all. In fact, his love for hooping is so overpowering that he’d play basketball in his backyard during Scandinavian winters when the temperature often reached minus 20 degrees Celsius!
“When he was about 10 or 11 years old, he kept a diary for one of his youth teams. In it, he logged how many hours he practiced his shot,” said Pekka Markkanen, his dad in an interview with Sports Illustrated.
Such was Lauri’s drive to play in the NBA. He kept a clear record of how many hours he needed to practice a shot! The 27-year-old has been in the biggest hoops league for 8 years and has made millions playing the game he loves. So, let’s see how much the Finnish star is making while suiting up for the Jazz.
