The New York Knicks have been careful with their roster for the 2024/25 season. Keeping in mind, the strict salary cap aprons, they were able to re-sign the Nigerian Wonderboy Precious Achiuwa. Well, many might say that the 25YO gambled himself for a $6 Million deal. But coach Tom Thibodeau was looking forward to positioning Achiuwa as the power forward of the team. Unfortunately, the tables have turned towards the unwanted.
ESPN’s senior NBA insider, Shams Charania has shared some fresh and disheartening updates from within the Knicks squad. The team has sidelined Precious Achiuwa due to an injury and has not provided any additional details regarding the severity. Charania reported: “Knicks say Precious Achiuwa suffered a strained left hamstring and will be re-evaluated in two to four weeks.” Thus, the ex-McDonald’s All-American will miss at least two to four weeks of the 2024/25 NBA Regular Season. This situation might present some new dilemmas before the Knicks, but surely they’ll have a backup plan to deal with it.

Precious Achiuwa had a chance to prove his $6 Million gamble
When the Knicks signed the 25-year-old power forward Precious Achiuwa it didn’t shock many. However, this move from the front office had already thrown Julius Randle on the chopping board. Well, later in September we saw the supposed after-effect of the $6 Million deal. Nonetheless, July 30 will be a special day for Achiuwa because the Knicks and himself reconsidered each other. The Nigerian was supposed to prove that he was the perfect choice for Tom Thibodeau’s squad. But it looks like the power forward has to now wait for a while to hit the parquet floor.
Meanwhile, Precious Achiuwa’s show against the Charlotte Hornets in both games was a glimpse of what the NY Knicks have signed into. With an outstanding 20 and 15 points and 16 and 5 rebounds respectively, he undoubtedly showed why the team was holding on to him. However, that was the preseason, what lies ahead is the regular season. And this might be a blunt take, but fans would rather remember a hooper for their performance and contribution in the regular season games than the preseason.

Precious Achiuwa will be sidelined, with updates expected in two to four weeks regarding the Knicks wingman’s condition. Meanwhile, many believe the talented player has taken a significant risk for this $6 million deal, but there’s still plenty to prove and prove wrong to the naysayers. Thus an injury will surely not end things for Achiuwa. Who said, a delayed start to the season is bad news? He might turn out to be a valuable key for the Knicks when he returns, who knows?
