At 38 years old, LeBron James has achieved all there is in basketball in his illustrious NBA career. He is a 4-time NBA Champion and a 4-time League MVP. With father time catching up to the 20-year veteran, King James has one thing left to accomplish in his Hall of Fame career. LeBron once expressed his desire to share the NBA court with his elder son, Bronny James. If his wish comes true, LeBron and Bronny will be the first active father-son duo to play in the NBA at the same time.

But LeBron’s world came crashing down when his 18-year-old son suffered a cardiac arrest during a workout at the University of Southern California on July 24. After the incident, basketball became secondary to King James as he prayed for his son’s recovery. One month later, the James family released a statement about Bronny’s health, reigniting the hopes of LeBron sharing an NBA court with his son.

After a thorough evaluation at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, James’ family released a statement on Friday saying that Bronny has been diagnosed with Congenial Heart Defect, which can be treated. “We are very confident in Bronny’s full recovery and return to basketball in the very near future.” James’ family added.

It is great to hear a positive statement about Bronny’s health as many feared he might never be able to play basketball again, let alone play in the NBA.

Bronny will be eligible for the NBA draft in 2024. He is projected to be a first-round pick in case he declares for next year’s draft. Bronny is a highly skilled 6’3 combo guard and has shown great promise with his meteoric rise at Sierra Canyon. With his shooting skills and athleticism, his game can translate well in the pros.

LeBron has expressed his desire to play with his son on multiple occasions.  “I need to be on the floor with my boy, I got to be on the floor with Bronny,” King James said earlier this year. Although his stance has changed a couple of times considering he does not want to put too much pressure on his son, he has that goal in the back of his mind. LeBron is on a 2-year, $97.1 million contract with the Lakers, which will end next year with a player option for 2024-25.
