Luka Doncic spent the first seven years of his NBA career suiting up for the Dallas Mavericks. The 25-year-old was a fan favorite and the face of the franchise in Dallas. Trading him almost seemed impossible until it did happen! On Saturday Doncic was traded to the Lakers in exchange for Anthony Davis. This move naturally sent everyone into a frenzy and the Mavericks fans into despair.
However, the most hurtful detail about the move was Luka Doncic himself not knowing about the trade. He allegedly was kept in the dark by the Mavericks front office. Now, with more details emerging it seems true. According to former Mavericks star Chandler Parsons, Luka Doncic just last week bought a massive $15 million house in Dallas. This just goes to show he was sure that he wasn’t switching cities anytime soon!

However, this wasn’t the only financial setback Doncic suffered from the trade. Furthermore, Luka would have apparently saved a lucrative $116 million by inking the supermax contract with the Mavericks. Plus, he also would’ve saved around $15 million in state taxes. This just piles up on the Slovenian star’s misery. These losses were avoidable if Doncic and his team were made aware of the move.
Luka even cried reportedly after learning that he was being traded. “I just find it to be extreme BS and the narrative needs to change around when players make decisions like this to understand that’s better for their future, for their family, their life.” Parsons further added. He shed light on the fact that there’s much more that goes into a trade than players switching teams. With that, let’s hear Luka’s statement after the move.

Slovenian superstar Luka Doncic made his first public comments on Sunday following his blockbuster move to Los Angeles. It was a heartfelt message for the Mavericks fans who’ve stood beside the guard through highs and lows alike. “Seven years ago, I came here as a teenager to pursue my dream of playing basketball at the highest level,” Doncic wrote.
