Gervonta Davis announced his return to the sporting world with a bang. After a 14-month-long hiatus in the ring, the 29-year-old boxer took on Frank “The Ghost” Martin for the WBA title match at 135 pounds. Despite a “rusty” start to match up, Davis came on top to bust the ghost in a star-studded event. Moreover, the Baltimore-bred star not only impressed his fans across the globe but also had NBA stars like LaMelo Ball, Ja Morant, and several others from the NBA world join the party.

The Tank had the public attention set right from the announcement of the match-up. He came back to the center with a lot of baggage, importantly a 44-day prison term for breaking his house arrest terms. Taking on Frank Martin, Davis walked in with his team, who dressed in “Ghostbuster” costume, inside the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

Davis gave Martin a tough time inside the ring, moving him from rope to rope, wearing him out. And in the 8th round, the star nearly knocked him out with a left uppercut followed by a left cross. Even though Martin managed to get back on his feet at the 10th count, the ref called it a game, as Martin barely managed to lift himself up.

Speaking of the match, Tank said, “I was rusty, but it was OK because I’m back… I knew he would tire out. That’s why we decided to just stand there and be a target for him so he could tire himself out.” The star went with the infamous ‘rope-a-dope’ approach that Muhammad Ali used to defeat George Foreman in the iconic World Heavyweight Boxing champion match at Zaire in 1974.

Following the comeback win, Davis broke into celebration as climbed on top of the ring and produced a back flip, leaving the audience in ecstasy.

The NBA world tags along to celebrate Gervonta Davis

Following the comeback victory, active and former NBA players rallied behind the star to celebrate. Charlotte Hornets star LaMelo Ball couldn’t believe what he saw, as he wrote, “gawh damnnnn,” via his X handle. Along with him, Hawks star Trae Young had a message to the other boxers in the sporting world. Young took to his X handled and wrote“Tank been different dawg.. quick f’n with him.” He asked the rest of the boxers to stop messing with Gervonta Davis.

Following them, the Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant didn’t spend his time messing around as he just came straight to the point. He took his X handle and wrote, “tank,” with a goat emoji, indicating that Davis was the greatest of all time. However, it may sound a little exaggerated but never write off an opinion from a world-class athlete.

The sophomore star Jaylen Williams joined the bandwagon and wrote, “WITH THE CHROME ON,” marking his attendance. On the other hand, former Celtics player Kendrick Perkins made his case for Tank and urged PBC/Amazon Prime to give a better offer for the Baltimore star.

Nevertheless, it isn’t just the players from the NBA world but also the fans who cheered for the 29-year-old. Watch this space for more updates.
