There has been a lot of chatter going on about the Los Angeles Lakers. Can’t blame anyone, seeing as how they have more than enough to be talked about. LeBron James continues as an omniscient presence in the background. Then there are the free agency trade talks. And an equally important one – the head coach position. Seeing as how Ty Lue is off the list, rumors about JJ Redick taking charge are getting stronger. If it goes through, it seems there will be another arrival – Chris Paul.

In an appearance with Stephen A. Smith in the last offseason, the ESPN broadcaster talked about how CP3’s move to Oklahoma and then Phoenix meant he was away from his family for four seasons. His kids had already started school in LA by then. “Why wouldn’t it be nice to be back and living full-time with your family during the NBA season?” he asked rhetorically. It would be quite the bait to lure Chris Paul to LA, wouldn’t you agree?

Another aspect Redick pointed out was that of the championship aspirations. Earlier, Phoenix was considered the apt destination for Chris Paul to win a ring. However, the elite point guard did not see any such luck. From there, the move to the Warriors was going to be the ONE. GSW was looking to get the fifth title before Steph left for good. Unfortunately, they had one of the worst seasons ever.

However, according to JJ, the other team he mentioned besides the Suns was the Lakers. “I’d love to see CP and AD run pick-and-rolls,” the former Duke product said, positively salivating at the idea. Well, with all the rumors about Redick landing the head coaching gig in Los Angeles, and if the Dubs let go of Chris Paul, there is no doubt the ‘Point God’ will be right alongside Davis. After all, the Purple & Gold are looking for a third star to pair alongside James and AD.

Despite all the signs supposedly pointing to JJ Redick sealing the deal, Woj seems to think otherwise.

Is JJ Redick really that close to getting the head coach position in the Lakers?

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Lakers are “nowhere closer”. Joining NBA Today, Woj mentioned that LA is looking to make in-depth and longer interviews. In fact, he mentioned Pelicans’ top assistant, James Borrego, was meeting the Purple & Gold for the second time. “Over the next few weeks, you’re going to see more candidates come back in and dig a little deeper with the Lakers on this head-coaching job,” he said.

Aside from Borrego and Redick, another serious contender for the HC job is the Heat assistant coach, Chris Quinn. He’s been in Miami since 2014, but there seems to be a tiny problem. Per Tim Reynolds of AP Sports, head coach Erik Spoelstra has made it clear that he would like to keep his current staff together.

As for Borrego, he isn’t new to the head coach role. 46 now, he’s had stints as HC with the Magic and Hornets with a 148-183 record and no playoff appearances. And then there’s JJ Redick. He is the only one who has no coaching experience, be it collegiate or NBA. After retiring as a basketball player, Redick turned his focus more on broadcasting and media career.
