Can LeBron James defy age and play all 82 games in his 22nd NBA season?

They say age is just a number. Well, it looks like LeBron James has taken this quote way too seriously as he is still going strong in year 22 in a league where the average career length is only five years. What’s even more surprising is that his passion for the game has not reduced one bit. Following Friday’s massive comeback win with JJ Redick and Co., LBJ boldly claimed, “Yeah, I plan on playing every game.”

Yes, the plan is to play all 82 games this season, a feat he last achieved seven years ago in Cleveland. And JJ Redick is ready to play his part in helping the soon-to-be 40-year-old hooper reach that mark.

As the Lakers prepare for tonight’s encounter with the Kings for the season’s first back-to-back, JJ addressed Bron’s intention, “Most players go into a season wanting to play 82 games. So, if that’s what he wants to do, great. I love it. I would love to have him for 82. We’ll manage the minutes accordingly.”

Obviously, which head coach wouldn’t want a superstar like King James to be available on the court every night?

The last and only time he did it was during his final season with the Cavs. Despite the hectic schedule, he finished the year averaging 27.5 points and was the runner-up in the MVP race. More importantly, the hooper had led his team to the Finals. So, if he plays the entire season, it could also be a good omen for the Lakers!

Sure enough, JJ Redick has already begun moving the pieces in his head as he prepares the perfect time management strategy for James. Well, that could mean LBJ getting fewer than usual minutes so that he gets enough rest and stays healthy for the entire year.

However, that has not been the case so far as LeBron James has averaged 34.5 minutes in the first two games. But tonight’s game could reveal JJ’s strategy going forward as it will showcase how he utilizes Bron without a rest day. As expected, Anthony Davis could be a big part of that strategy.

How can Anthony Davis help LeBron James accomplish his 82-game goal with JJ Redick and Co.?

While James has been on the court for his usual minutes, it is clear that his usage rate is much lower than in previous years. That’s because Redick has been running most of the offense through AD and even revealed this strategy before the season began.

“One of the things I brought up with him is just the idea of him as a hub. There’s a bunch of guys at the 5 position in the NBA that sort of operate in that way.” Obviously, the head coach was referring to players like Nikola Jokic.

“I don’t know that he’s been used in that way and maximize all of his abilities,” JJ Redick added. Sure enough, Anthony Davis has played his part so far as he has had two straight 35-point+ performances to keep the Lakers undefeated.

With The Brow dominating, LeBron James has comfortably taken a backseat and is averaging a career-low 18.5 points! Well, that might be the ideal situation for him and the Lakers, as it does not over-exert LBJ and keeps his team in the winning column. As great as LeBron is, he has never played every game in a regular season wearing the Purple and Gold. Do you think he can do it in Year 22?

The last two lines sound baffling, don’t they? But it’s LeBron James.
