Is Jeanie Buss's special treatment enough to save JJ Redick's future with the Lakers?

The Lakers are running out of time and their new coach JJ Redick might receive no concessions! “We as Lakers fans gotta give JJ Redick, our new coach, some time to really help him understand how to utilize the talent, how to coach the talent, and then also what schemes will work, and what schemes won’t work,” said Magic Johnson and Jeanie Buss too has a similar outlook. But is this really possible?

Lakers insider Trevor Lane dived into what’s going on and why Redick is going to face a tough time ahead. “You have a LeBron James and Anthony Davis, AD is north of 30 now, and Lebron James, who is going to be 40 in December in case you haven’t heard. Those guys don’t have a lot of time for JJ Redick to learn on the job. So there is going to be immediate pressure for JJ to come in an win right away,” Lane said.

He isn’t wrong here. The clock is ticking with LeBron James and Anthony Davis. James already seems to be on the brink of retirement and while Davis has shared that he isn’t planning to retire anytime soon, he wants to get back to the very top and he will depend on his coach for this. He doesn’t have time on his side owing to three more years on his Lakers contract.

The only good thing here is that the team and Jeanie Buss are aware that they need to develop young talent as their top players are aging out. But there is another issue!

The West Conference is brutal—every misstep can have major consequences. The Lakers can’t afford any slip-ups, as they could lose crucial games. If JJ Redick is still figuring out his coaching strategies, those early mistakes might cost them big time, possibly determining if they make the playoffs or just end up in the play-in tournament.

Also, last season, after the in-season tournament, the Lakers hit a rough patch and fell in the standings. Even when they turned things around, they had a tough time getting out of the 9th spot, proving how fierce the West really is.

Teams like OKC, Denver, Minnesota, the Clippers (even without Paul George), Dallas, and the Suns are all strong contenders. “These teams are not gonna lose, they are gonna keep stacking up wins,” Trevor Lane said on Lakers Nation on YouTube.

Is Jeanie Buss's special treatment enough to save JJ Redick's future with the Lakers?

Now Memphis, despite last season’s setbacks, is set to come back strong and might even outshine the Lakers in wins. It’s clear that in the West, every game counts, and there’s no room for slip-ups, making the Lakers’ path to success even harder.

JJ Redick might need quick fixes to keep Lakers fans content!

The real question is: Can the Lakers snag another ring to go with the one they have already got? LeBron’s legacy is solid, but with AD’s time running out, the pressure is off the charts. All this just piles more weight on rookie coach JJ Redick, who is now feeling the heat to make it all happen.

Here Jeanie Buss’ ‘special’ treatment with the coach because of his close friendship with James might not work because Trevor Lane and many NBA fans already agree that people need to be patient with JJ Redick. Though he has great NBA experience, he is a first-time head coach for a professional team and he may eventually find success with the team. HOWEVER!

The situation demands the coach and his team perform from the very start, which seems like an impossible task.

Further, let us not forget how frequently the Lakers have had to change their coaches. Buss may be showing patience towards Redick, but looking at the team’s history with their coaches, would it be too surprising if they decide to switch up and get past him?
