Did the Lakers' $5 million blunder waste LeBron's sacrifices? What's your take on this mess?

What do you think the Lakers lack the most? Well, as seen from their recent playoff performance, the team has been struggling the most from beyond the arc. The Lakers also do not have enough depth in their roster. The bench isn’t as productive and some of their key players who could’ve helped the Lakers past the first round were injured. Of course, Christian Wood is someone to look out for, but there’s one other player who the Lakers left unexplored. Max Christie, the former Spartan, didn’t really get the chance to prove himself in his first two seasons.

However, the 21-year-old recently signed a 4-year, $32 million contract with the Lakers. Interestingly, this was a room exception considering the Lakers are above the first apron. But Christie might have just saved his career as a Laker. His contract basically pulls the Lakers out of the second apron hole, leaving them with more flexibility to make in-season trades, if the opportunity ever arrives. And also, James may be hopeful of an upgrade down the road knowing that he was willing to take a pay cut during the initial phase of the offseason.

There are other players who could fit the role Christie’s role. But how good is Christie? For the most part, he’s a decent player. Although, he really hasn’t had the chance to prove himself. Last season, Christie averaged 4.2 points and 2.1 rebounds playing 14 minutes a game. There’s no denying that the youngster is finding it hard to prove his worth. But on the bright side, the Lakers have a new head coach who would love to explore Christie’s talents.

Still, there are a few more assets that are yet to show up. Wood who was dominating in Houston three years ago has been dealing with injuries. Other bench players include Cam Reddish, Jarred Vanderbilt, and the newcomer, Dalton Knecht, who are the franchise’s only hope for some help. Nevertheless, the Lakers won’t be closing their doors on newer additions. But what exactly are the Lakers expecting from Christie?

Max Christie will have quite some responsibilities next season

Have an interesting take?

Now, back in his college days, Christie wasn’t one of the most hyped players in the country. In fact, he declared for the NBA Draft and decided to play his chances. Being a decent shooting guard of his draft class, Max landed as the 35th pick on the board. As a freshman, Christie averaged 9.3 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.5 assists while shooting under 40% from the field. Yes, his numbers aren’t impressive at all. Fast forward to the present day, the former Spartan landed a $32 million deal.

Christie will have to show signs of a reliable 3-and-D player coming off the bench. The Lakers had one of the worst offseasons and they don’t have many players to look up to apart from the talent that is available on the bench. Christie is still a player in development but to make his way out of the possible trade talks, the youngster will have to prove himself this upcoming season. And with JJ Redick on the sidelines, this time, Christie will get plenty of minutes for himself.
