While the Lakers’ training camp is only a week away, there remains a huge question mark around Gabe Vincent’s health. When Pelinka added him to the roster last year, the expectations were sky-high as he had just come off a Finals run with the Heat. However, Vincent’s debut season in LA ended in disappointment, as he was limited to playing only 11 games because of a lingering knee injury. But that’s all the past and the point guard has finally given the Lakers Nation a huge sigh of relief with the latest update on his injury.
During a recent interview at the facility, Gabe Vincent revealed that he spent most of his offseason laying low in LA and working on his game and body. And about his availability for the upcoming season, the hooper revealed, “Body is feeling good. Like I said, it’s a long summer. Tried to make sure my knees were in good shape. Had an unfortunate surgery in the middle of the season last year that kind of sidelined me for the most part. So, looking forward to a new season ahead and take on these challenges.”
This past season, Gabe Vincent barely got a chance to step on the court as he was forced to undergo a knee surgery after playing only 4 games. Then, he returned for a game in December but was sidelined again as the injury continued to bother him. Going through intense rehab, the hooper managed to play 6 more games toward the end of the season and 5 games in the playoffs.

But Gabe Vincent couldn’t maximize his potential and averaged only 3.1 points, his lowest numbers since his rookie season 5 years ago. But now, the hooper is finally feeling healthy and is ready to start winning right away!
Gabe Vincent divulges the difficulty while not contributing because of injury and lays down the expectations for next season
Well, Gabe Vincent had high hopes when he joined the Lakers on a 3-year $33 million deal. It was increasingly hard for him spending most of the season on the bench, “It’s difficult. It’s always hard when you can’t play at the level you want to, and can’t give back to your teammates and the organization the way you know you can.” Just a season before moving to LA, Gabe played all 22 games for the Heat in the playoffs and averaged a solid 12.7 points and nearly 4 assists to help them reach the Finals. Last season’s injury halted most of his momentum and development.

But with his knees fully recovered, Gabe Vincent has high expectations for next season. “I’m just excited to help us win. That’s it… I’m excited to put my fingerprints on this organization.” Yes, the Lakers have made no additions to the roster this summer. So, Vincent might be considered their new free agent signing because we saw so little of him in the Purple and Gold uniform last season. And if he can play like he did in Miami alongside the return of Jarred Vanderbilt, the Lakers will have a legitimate shot at making a deep run in the playoffs despite having almost the same roster as last season.
