The 2024/25 NBA season will answer a lot of questions about LeBron James and the Lakers. Will they find the winning formula or this is going to be another bust for them? The new courtside management under JJ Redick will hope for the former scenario and so will Austin Reaves from a personal perspective.

The 26-year-old has often been seen as the disposable piece in the bigger puzzle for the Lakers. Despite his flash of brilliance, the struggles with consistency have been a recurring theme in his life. Alongside his, another story will create a lot of intrigue and that is of LeBron James and his son Bronny.

The King and the prince sharing the court will be a highlight in the crumbling castle of the Lakers. The story even followed Austin Reaves to Manila. To quench the curiosity, Reaves is in the Philippines for the second year in a row, but this time, as the newest ambassador of Arena Plus. During their press conference, the guard was asked about the dynamic expected in LA surrounding LeBron and Bronny. When asked about his feelings ahead of playing with the father-son duo, Reaves said, “For LeBron to just put himself in position to play with his son, it’s special. I know he will be motivated to play at his peak level. For me to be around them and to see what it’s going to be like, that’s going to be very cool for me.”

Bronny James has already made the headlines for his performance in the Summer League, mostly due to the wrong reasons. After a rough start, James Jr. turned the tide with 12 and 13 points respectively against the Hawks and the Cavs. But that might not be enough to cover the Lakers’ squandering in the market.

Austin Reaves opens up about the Lakers’ lack of activities in market

While the majority of the Western Conference have upgraded their current roster, the Lakers have found themselves lagging behind. Right after the start of the trade window, the big-name targets were swooped up by the competition. So far, the Lakers have only added Bronny and his fellow draftee, Dalton Knecht to the roster. In this situation, Austin Reaves provided a quick insight into the mindset in the camp amid a silent summer.

“I think that we have what we need to go compete for a championship. You look back at the Denver series last year, and I forget the statistics, but I think we’ve led for like a 140 minutes to their like 38 minutes or something that we get beat (by) 5,4,1, which you can’t even really wrap your mind around,” Reaves said about the Lakers current roster and its chances in a championship battle.

New HC JJ Redick has already laid out plans for the team and the catch-and-shoot approach will be beneficial for someone of Reaves’ style of play. The guard will have a chip on his shoulder to prove a point and surely that will only boost the Lakers’ not-so-good chances in the championship fight.
