Anthony Davis has surprised everyone this season. Since joining the Lakers five years ago, health and availability have been two major concerns with him. However, AD was starting to get rid of that reputation as he played a career-high 76 games last year and has only missed one game so far this season. The one game he missed was because of a foot injury that was later diagnosed as plantar fasciitis. Unfortunately, his latest injury became a cause of concern.
During the Christmas Day encounter against the Warriors, the player went down quite early after a missed Los Angeles field goal. Davis was trying to trace where the ball would fall and, while doing so, appeared to misstep with his left foot. He fell to the floor.
After getting back up, he moved gingerly, and at the end of the first quarter, he went back to the locker room for an evaluation. He was ruled out for the game because of his ankle injury and so, finished with 0 points and two rebounds in seven minutes.

Now at halftime, ESPN’s Shams Charania shared that the athlete wanted to test his re-taped ankle in the third quarter but that never took place. Though the Lakers eventually won 115-113 against the Warriors, Davis’s injury brought up a question: Will he be able to play against the Kings?
ESPN’s reporter Dave McMenamin published an update on X. He wrote, “Anthony Davis to ESPN: “I’ll be OK. I am playing against SAC on Saturday”.”

But what did JJ Redick have to say about AD’s situation? During the post-game press conference, the coach stated, “I don’t have an updated on AD. Just ankle.”
Surely, Laker Nation would be praying that Davis is able to keep his word because he has been in incredible form this season, averaging 26.6 points and nearly twelve rebounds. Moreover, the Purple and Gold franchise could struggle against the Kings without him on the floor because they lack the length to stop Domantas Sabonis inside the paint.
Another reason behind AD’s willingness to play on Saturday could be his recent disappointing outing against the Kings.
Anthony Davis doesn’t have a great record vs. the Kings!
Before this season, AD had never beaten Sabonis in his career, despite facing him ten times. However, the tides turned this year. Well, Davis finally snapped his losing streak in October by beating Sabonis for the first time. And now he wants to continue that streak.
“He is a helluva player. All-Star, and there’s a whole Netflix show about him,” Davis said of Sabonis back then. “He’s one of the premier bigs in this league. I just tried to be aggressive, and we got a team win tonight.”
Yes, the Lakers have won all three games against the Kings this season and AD has been a major contributor in all of them, except the last one.

In the first two games, he combined for 52 points and almost thirty rebounds. Unfortunately, he could not continue his dominance during last week’s encounter and finished with only 10 points on four of ten shooting. However, he was able to grab fifteen boards.
Sure, the Lakers won regardless, thanks to LeBron’s 32-point outing. But AD did not perform well, and he is likely seeking redemption. That could be one of the reasons Davis was so excited to face the Kings on Saturday despite the ankle issues. Hopefully, we will see him on the court, as he remarked. But here’s the thing: Will Sabonis play against the Lakers?

Well, he has been dealing with a back injury. But as per the final injury report for the Kings, the athlete has been officially given the green light and if things go as planned, NBA fans will get to see them fight for a win once again.
