Should the Lakers bring back Schroder to fix their backcourt woes, or is it too late?

The Purple & Gold fandom smells victory in the air! Well, it’s not that simple. Amid the Lakers’ backcourt confusion, fans see a ray of hope with a trade proposal. Thanks to tonight’s high-octane entertainer, between the Brooklyn Nets and Cleveland Cavaliers. This game not only gave the idea for a trade but also forced former Laker, Nick Young aka. Swaggy P, to call out GM Rob Pelinka’s big mistake from the past.

Coach JJ Redick announced the Lakers’ starting lineup much before the start of the season. However, 8 games in, the 40-year-old forced a change in the backcourt, replacing D’Lo with Cam Reddish. Much like the change that former boss Darvin Ham did last season. Looking at the volatile nature of the team’s backcourt unit, fans found a permanent solution along with a frontcourt help.

Tonight, the Nets faced the Cavs at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse. The Wine & Gold came into the game with a 10-0 record, defeating an in-form Warriors. While everyone thought the Nets would have a similar fate, Dennis Schroder & Co. had other ideas. They almost ended the Cavs’ streak with a 7-point lead with four minutes remaining on the clock. Even though Darius Garland & Co. won the game with a 105-100 score, Schroder (22 points, 5 assts) and Cam Johnson (23 pts, 5 rbs, and 4 3 three-pointers) stood out.

In response to the performance, Nick Young took to X and wrote, “If I was the lakers I would’ve paid Dennis Schroder b4 everyone but AR”. Notably, Schroder played for the Lakers in the 2022-23 season during which they reached the Conference Finals, but traded him in just one season. And, the team hasn’t found a permanent replacement in the backcourt yet. Nevertheless, fans have a solution.

“Get it done Mr. Pelinka”: Fans rally behind Dennis Schroder’s re-acquisition

D’Angelo Russell has been under par since his poor playoff run in the 2024 postseason. Only 8 games into the new season, JJ pushed him to the bench. However, it isn’t enough for the fans, as they want a replacement. A fan wrote, “Nets really could give us Schroder, Cam Johnson, DFS all for a combined 50 mil and we got Gabe, Max, DLo, JHS, Lewis for almost that much giving us nothing.”

While Schroder will make up for the backcourt void, Cam Johnson, the 6 ‘9 forward could reduce the burden on Anthony Davis, who is dealing with a heel injury. The fans seem to be in a role to resurrect the Lakers! Notably, former boss Ham wanted to stick with Schroder after the 2022-23 season, but went with Gabe Vincent, citing he was a “better player and value,” as per Jovan Buha. Unfortunately, Vincent just played 11 games last year, dealing with an injury.

Another fan brought out a win-win situation for both the Nets and Lakers, writing, “DLO goes back to the Nets and has his reunion. We get Cam Johnson and DFS get it done Mr.Pelinka.” Instead of the German guard, this fan proposed two forward players in return. Considering the Lakers’ already stacked frontcourt with Rui Hachimura, LeBron James, and AD, this trade proposal is quite irrational!

Should the Lakers bring back Schroder to fix their backcourt woes, or is it too late?

Have an interesting take?

This fan proposed another win-win situation, writing, “Dlo and Christie + draft comp for Dennis and Cam Johnson swap soon don’t worry,” responding to a worried Nets fan. Looking at the upcoming draft, the Nets need to have a bad season to increase the odds to get 1st pick and eventually grab Cooper Flagg. However, the team’s current performance has ironically put the fans in distress. So, this LA Lakers fan proposed a win-win trade situation.

Building on that, another fan wrote, “Cam Johnson and Dennis Schroder can get the Nets some good assets by trade deadline” Well, this could play spoilsport in their Cooper Flagg dream. Notably, Cooper Flagg is touted as the next big thing in the league, considering his exploits in high school, leading the Montverde Academy  to a perfect 34-0 record, averaging 16.4 ppg. Currently, the young guard plays for Duke Blue Devils and he expected to join the NBA next season. Probably as the #1 pick.

Should the Nets really tank this season? Or go for Gold? Let us know.
