“No comments,” these two words from LeBron James in the Lakers’ exit press conference conjured a whirlwind of speculations that lasted almost two months. Now in July, things look certain that the King will return to LA next season. With his son, Bronny James, by his side, LeBron will again don the gold and purple threads. But for how long?

As time is catching up to the evergreen 39-year-old, his days on the court are numbered. Everyone knows it, LeBron himself knows it, but the only thing we don’t know yet is how far is that finish line. Speaking to Drew Weisholtz of Today, LeBron probably just hinted at that. The 4-time NBA champion expressed his desire to bolt from the Los Angeles public. “I’m getting the hell out of that city when the Olympics come to Los Angeles. All right, I’ll live there all year. I will not be in Los Angeles in ‘28. I’m getting out of there.”

LeBron James has multiple properties in California alongside the one he currently lives in with his family. His $23.5 million Brentwood property features eight bedrooms, nine and a half bathrooms, a wine cellar, a home theater, an elevator, an indoor and outdoor gym, and a sauna. His living abode is, however, in Beverley Hills, the $37 million mansion he purchased in 2020.

But, earlier this year, LeBron was reportedly concerned about the increased squatting in the area, a common theme all over California. Anti-social elements were also noted in the neighborhood, which was a greater cause of concern for the family man. In 2023, when LeBron expressed his wish to demolish the property, it was met with public backlash. Amid the housing crisis in the city, LeBron was advised to let the homeless people live there rather than demolish it.

Amid all the criticism that Lebron has had to endure for fair or unfair reasons in Los Angeles, the question is: where will LeBron go if he decides to leave the City?

Where might LeBron James potentially head to after the Lakers?

Earlier this year, LeBron James expressed his wish to retire with the Lakers. But things can change rapidly in life and in the NBA. This was proved by the recent speculation surrounding LeBron himself. He did sign a 2-year $104 million deal with the Lakers, but it comes with a player option for the second year, which means by this time next year, we might be again speculating where the four-time champion will play if things don’t work out in Los Angeles.

So what are the possible destinations for the King? The most predictable scenario can be LeBron returning to his hometown in Ohio. Playing with the Cavs in his final days in the game will be a fairytale ending to his storied career. His appearance in Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse during the Cavs’ game vs the Cs during the Eastern Conference semis created quite a stir. Images of LeBron in a Cavs jersey were running rampant on social media, but that did not materialize into reality.

The other potential scenario can see LeBron seeing out his career in LA with his current franchise. He could still possibly go for another 3-4 seasons and playing with Bryce James could be another incentive. By then, the anticipated NBA expansion might be in its conclusive stages. LeBron’s dream of owning a franchise is no secret and that could give him the perfect opportunity to have one. However, that’s a subject of speculation. But just like all good things must come to an end, LeBron’s storied career will have an end date to it. Whether he leaves LA permanently after that or not is only up to the whim of the King.
