The trend continues! Just a few days ago, the Warriors revealed they would be heading to Hawaii for their preseason training camp. With a major change in their roster following Klay’s departure, the management reportedly believes a shift in environment could lead to healthy bonding. Now, the Clippers are also following in Joe Lacob and Co.’s footsteps as they announced their plan to conduct a training camp in Hawaii. However, it could inadvertently help Steve Kerr and Co. figure things out before the regular season begins.
Just like the Dubs, Steve Ballmer’s team will also begin its camp on the first day of October. While Steve Kerr and Co. will conduct their operation at Brigham Young University in Oahu, the Clippers’ camp will station themselves at the University of Hawaii’s Stan Sheriff Center. The camp will last for 5 days and culminate with both teams facing each other in a preseason game on October 5 at SimpliFi Arena.

Sure enough, this could be a great learning experience for both teams. With the core of Klay, Steph, and Draymond no longer intact, Steve Kerr’s Warriors have a major task at hand, finding a new identity. And they have added several new stars including Buddy Hield and Kyle Anderson, who are expected to facilitate that change.
Meanwhile, there is also the uncertainty of Steph’s future as he is eligible to sign a one-year $62.6 million extension before opening night in late October. So, the Hawaii camp could help solidify the bond of the new-look Warriors and prevent a major meltdown in the regular season. And about the Clippers, the island trip could help them figure out how to operate without a star like Paul George. But when we speak about the island and the two franchises, does it honestly ring a bell?
Warriors and Clippers have prior connections to Hawaii!
Well, this is not the first time the two teams are heading to the beautiful islands before the start of the season. In fact, it has become sort of a tradition for the Clippers as this would be their 5th trip to Hawaii in the last 7 years. Meanwhile, this is the first time in recent years that the Warriors are heading outside the Bay Area for their training camp. However, they also used to take frequent trips to Hawaii during the early 2000s for preseason games.

Can the Clippers really help the Warriors avoid another locker room disaster this season?

The trip will specifically bring back a lot of memories for Steph as he held a basketball camp at the BYU campus 8 years ago, which was attended by hundreds of young aspiring hoopers. “To be able to bring it here to Hawaii, to see our supporters down here, they get to watch all of our games with the time difference and all that… so to be able to come down and share and kind of embrace Dub Nation here in Hawaii, I think it’s a really good experience,” Steph had said in an interview about his camp.

And maybe, the Hawaii trip will help the Warriors get more clarity on how they want to move forward this season with the re-shuffled core, deeper inclusion of young names, and Steph Curry’s massive contract extension.
