The Cleveland Cavaliers‘ love for Kyrie Irving is pure! When Irving was announced before the Cavs vs Mavericks matchup, the crowd received him with a huge ovation. The 8x All-Star, for his part, was equally happy and showed his love to the fans.
Part of the historic 2016 championship team, Irving played a huge role in Cleveland’s first sporting trophy in 50 years, when he hit the go-ahead three over Steph Curry. Not too long after, he made his intentions clear for a trade. Irving did not want to continue playing by the side of James. Rather, he wanted to be the man of his own team. It was in such circumstances that he was traded to the Boston Celtics in 2017.

From there, Irving was part of some major changes and headlines. The most notable, of course, was his stint with the Brooklyn Nets. But that’s a subject which has been operated on many times over. It remains, to this day, a ‘What If’ scenario. But he seems to be working well with the Mavericks and Luka Doncic. While it’s not the same as being a sidekick of Bron, it’s a given that Doncic is the face of the franchise and Irving is his partner.
While his dream of leading his own team didn’t exactly work out, his impact was nothing short of remarkable. And the Cavs’ superstar, Donovan Mitchell, couldn’t agree more.

Its not uncommon for teams to retire the jerseys of players who have been core pieces of the franchise. Mitchell believes that Kyrie Irving is one such player. He says that Irving’s efforts to bring championship to the Cavs spoke to his diligence. “He should have his jersey retired for sure …. Only championship in team history, and he was a huge part of that,” he said.
Mitchell further explains that having records is certainly welcome. But they don’t mean anything if you can’t get a ring. And Irving was able to do that. That alone is reason enough to retire his jersey, along with Kevin Love and LeBron James. But Mitch’s admiration for Kyrie goes long back.

Even from a young age, he was a huge fan of the Duke product. In fact, he had spent hours studying his approach to the game. Mitch is well-aware about Irving’s style of play and even then, he is still in awe of the “unpredictable nature of how he operates” and gets to his spots.
It’s clear that the 27-year-old Cavs superstar holds Kyrie Irving in his regard. Hopefully, he can create history by bringing in the franchise’s second championship soon!
