The Mavs entered the American Airlines Center determined to walk away with a ticket to the NBA Finals. Unfortunately, they didn’t stand a chance against the incredibly stunning and even more determined group of Wolves. What should have been a series sweep ended up in their first loss. While Dallas still holds a 3-1 advantage, tonight’s defeat was especially hurtful for Kyrie Irving. Ahead of the matchup, everybody saw a smiling ‘Uncle Drew’. He went as far as taunting the opponent, saying, “We good, this is their Super Bowl. It’s just a normal game for us.”

We suppose it’s safe to say Minnesota won the Super Bowl? The normal game for the Mavs, however, soon turned into a 100-105 loss in front of their home crowd. Irving couldn’t be more sorry than he was at the moment. Talking to reporters post-game, he said, “A loss like this definitely stings. It definitely hurts. We would have loved to close out the series on our home floor – sorry fans.” Aside from the failure to close out the series, this is the first time that the veteran guard lost a series-clinching game in his career (14-1)!

It was a humbling night for the elite point guard of the Mavericks, to say the least. Yet, he can afford to taunt his opponents. Dallas needs just one win to be done with the Timberwolves. In contrast, Anthony Edwards and Co. will be fighting for survival in the next two games. And that is if the backcourt duo of Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving somehow does not cook the Wolves for dinner.

The 32-year-old Australian, though, did not fail to give props to his brilliant opponents. Particularly, Jaden McDaniels. “He is a 6-9 wing defender that I’m seeing now for the first time from the start of the game. So it’s going to be an adjustment, but I love it. I relish in these type opportunities.”

The 8x All-Star finished the night with 16 points, four assists, and two rebounds, hitting just 1-of-6 shots from downtown and 6-of-18 from the field. While Irving apologized to the hometown fans for disappointing them, Doncic took the whole blame on himself. Something Kai knew he would do.

“He’s not alone”: Kyrie Irving on Doncic shouldering the responsibility for the loss

Irving has been in the league for 13 years and has a ring to his name. Although the teams he played in previously didn’t exactly work for him, no one can contest that he was and still is an elite guard and one of the best ball handlers in the NBA. His move from Cleveland was so that he could find his own space and lead his own team. Although that didn’t happen, the leader in him stepped up whenever his team needed him to do so.

As such, he knows what they think. So when Luka said that the loss was on him, Irving immediately refuted it. He’s not alone in this,” Kai said. However, he understood what led Doncic to shoulder the blame. “I expect him to say something like that, especially knowing how much he cares and how much he wants to win and how much he wants to lead our group. So I expect nothing less … That’s what you’re supposed to hear from your leaders of your team.”

Nonetheless, Irving nor Doncic is alone in taking responsibility. It seems like the Mavs squad is just as obliging. “It’s not on them, it’s on us as a team … I know that they’re the leaders of the team, that head of the snake, but we got their back through thick and through thin,” Derrick Jones Jr. said. As they should! Because they will certainly need it if they plan to close the series in Game 5.

Before you go, another matter foremost in our mind is about our beloved Inside the NBA crew. While many are sure they are going to be disbanded, Shaq’s ex-agent, Leonard Armato, thinks otherwise. To know more about his comments, watch this video.
