In the latest episode of the Club 520 Podcast, hosted by Jeff Teague, 7’6” giant Tacko Fall compared the best duos in the NBA. The Former Celtics Center picked Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown over Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic. Even though there might be a bias in his opinion, being a former teammate of the duo, he made some fair points while making his choice. Tatum and Brown have been together for many years and led the Boston Celtics to the NBA finals in 2022. Even though they could not win a championship, the Celtics duo has taken their team far into the playoffs almost every year they have played together.
Apart from their playoff performances, Tacko picked the duo for one important reason, “On both sides of the ball, who would you pick?” Tacko believes that Tatum and Brown are elite on both sides of the floor, which is extremely important during the playoffs as the game becomes more defense-oriented. Luka and Kyrie are elite on offense but lack the defensive skills and effort of the Celtics duo. “They ain’t even trying on defense.” Teague added in support of the 7’6” giant.

The comparison between the duos of Tatum-Brown and Luka-Kyrie is not fair to begin with. Tatum and Brown have played together for 6 years, whereas Kyrie joined forces with Luka this February. The duo in Dallas has not had enough time together to be picked over Tatum and Brown. Even though they are great players individually, Kyrie and Luka were unable to take the Dallas Mavericks to the playoffs last season.
With Kyrie re-signing with Dallas on a 3-year $120 million contract, fans will have more time to see how Luka and Kyrie perform together. The Celtics, on the other hand, have no plans of breaking the superstar duo of Tatum and Brown. They signed Jaylen Brown for 5 more years in a historic $288 million contract, and Tatum will soon follow suit.
