The fans at the TD Garden were treated to an electrifying matchup on Sunday night. The Boston Celtics and the Philadelphia 76ers went head-to-head in the preseason opener. And the Celtics started the season with a bang as they dominated the 76ers in a 114-106 win.

The Celtics made significant offseason moves, culminating with Jrue Holiday’s residual move after Dame trade. They also landed the big man Kristaps Porzingis from the rebuilding Washington Wizards. Following a spectacular performance for the TD Garden audience, the 7-foot-3 forward spoke candidly?about his debut game with the Celtics.

After witnessing the Celtics in action in the preseason opener, there are no questions about the fit of the new additions. Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue Holiday made their presence felt with their dazzling performance, scoring 17 and 6 points, respectively. The Latvian forward started the game on a high note, shooting a 3-pointer from the downtown. He maintained the momentum throughout the game, tallying 17 points, five rebounds, one assist, and a block in 25 minutes.

While Jrue Holiday’s unofficial debut was not as emphatic as Porzingis, he matched six points on 2-of-10 shooting. He did, however, flaunt his All-Defensive ability, recording five rebounds and three steals.

The acquisition of two All-Star-caliber players has made the team even stronger now that they can support their franchise cornerstone, Jayson Tatum. Although Tatum did not have a great start as he just shot 3-of-13 from the floor, he still had an impact on the game. Porzingis revealed Tatum can draw defensive attention to himself. It helps minimize the pressure from opponents. This, in turn, gives him more open space to shoot his ball.

While Porzingis made his presence felt in the first quarter, the spotlight quickly shifted to the 6’1″ guard. The 2020 first-round pick grabbed everyone’s attention with his stupendous performance in the tilt against the Sixers.

Payton Pritchard stole the limelight on the Sunday showing

Another star of the match was the 25YO point guard Payton Pritchard. He notched a game-high 26 points on 9-of-14 shooting after agreeing to a 4-year, $30 million extension just hours before the game. After Sunday’s showing, the Celtics look geared up to win it all this season. Kristaps Porzingis offered a few words about his debut game against the Sixers. He told Celtics Blog?s Jack Simone how “insane” it was to play alongside Payton Pritchard, who entered the game with all guns blazing.

One of the most memorable moments of the match came when Pritchard drilled a 3-pointer buzzer-beater at the end of the first quarter to close the 13-point deficit.
