The Celtics fans were left heartbroken when they found out that Kristaps Porziņģis would be forced to sit out tonight’s game because of a rare foot injury. After returning only a week ago from the previous injury that caused him to miss most of the playoffs, KP’s unfortunate setback happened during the third quarter of Game 2. And to make things worse, NBA Insider Adrian Wojnarowski revealed that this injury could lead to him missing more than just tonight’s game.

Discussing Porziņģis’ condition on ESPN’s NBA Countdown, Woj sent shockwaves through Boston, saying, “There is real doubt about Kristaps Porziņģis’ availability for the rest of the finals.” It is clear that the Latvian wanted to push through his injury and he hoped to contribute as much as he could on the court. But he was ruled out by the Celtics’ medical staff to avoid the risk of aggravating anything further. And there is a big chance he might not suit up for the rest of the series.

Porziņģis is suffering from a torn medial retinaculum, leading to him dislocating the posterior tibialis tendon in his left foot. The announcers during tonight’s live broadcast revealed this could keep him out for 6 to 8 weeks and there’s a chance he might have to undergo surgery to fully recover. KP will be under assessment as Mazzulla revealed before tip-off, “The medical team and the staff just decided that it wasn’t what’s best for him to go tonight. It’ll just be a day-to-day thing and (we’ll) see how he is tomorrow and the next day.”

Porziņģis continued his unfortunate streak of not being able to play at the American Airlines Center since getting traded from Dallas. “Some black magic, no?” he hilariously reacted to his fate. But KP hopes to change this soon as he makes a bold claim. “I’ll be back this series,” he announced. Working all his life to get to this stage, he does not want his injury to stop him from living his dream and helping his team win a title.

There were some positive signs that Porziņģis might be able to back his claim. He was seen walking normally on the sidelines during tonight’s game. He had no walking boot on! So, there is a chance he might make a miraculous comeback soon. Until then, Xavier Tillman Sr. and Luke Kornet will likely get more playing time to make up for KP’s absence.

With Porziņģis outscoring the entire bench of both sides by himself in the first two games, a total of 32 points in the two wins, those will be some big shoes to fill for the backup Centers. That’s a major reason why the Celtics are up 2-0. Hopefully, Porziņģis will be able to overcome his rare injury and return soon. You can check out the live coverage of Game 3 right here.
