The Boston Celtics are under new leadership. Bill Chisholm is now at the reins of the legendary club. New owners can have a lot of ramifications for a team that’s about to enter the postseason in less than a month. So a lot of people within the organization knew about this sale beforehand. But it seems Celtics star Kristaps Porzingis wasn’t one of those privy to this information.
This season, the Celtics sit 3rd in the Eastern Conference, right below the Knicks and the Cavs. They’re looking to repeat as champions and seem primed to make a deep playoff run. To that end, Wyc Grousbeck, the former owner, informed a lot of the key Celtics players about the impending sale. However, at the post-game press conference after the Utah Jazz game, Kristaps revealed that neither Wyc nor the new owner, Bill Chisholm, had spoken to him thus far.

The reporter asked Kristaps what he expected to change as the Celtics transitioned between owners. “Honestly, I don’t have any, like, I don’t expect anything. I don’t know, I haven’t met them (new owners) yet. And honestly, it’s not for me to worry about too much,” said Kristaps.

But he also added that they’ll probably be speaking soon, even if Porzingis himself doesn’t have much to say to Chisholm.”We’ll see, he’s probably going to be around soon. And then it will be the first time I meet him and the team. And I don’t know. Honestly, I don’t have a strong opinion,” revealed the Latvian big man.
Kristaps also said that he was solely focused on his duties as a player. Judging from the double-double performance he had against the Jazz, we don’t doubt his words for one second. But Kristaps’ situation is completely contrasted by Jayson Tatum’s. Jayson was kept in the loop by Wyc Grousbeck so that he and the team weren’t adversely affected by the ownership change.

As the majority owner for over two decades, Wyc Grousbeck knew it was only right to let some of his key players know about the ownership change. Speaking to NBC Sports alongside Bill Chisholm, Wyc revealed the way he handled the transition and how he addressed the Celtics star.

“I’ve actually talked to Jaylen and Jayson and Joe and Brad and said…The people who are looking, these finalists, these very small groups of finalists are all great, and they can all do the job.’…They said, ‘We trust you.’ I mean Jayson Tatum literally looked at me and said, ‘I trust you Wyk. Got it.’ … think and with good reason, hopefully, that he trusts me, so everything’s good,” revealed Wyc.

He also had a message for the fans. “I think we found a… really good guy who burns with the desire to be a great owner and that’s what you want and that’s what you’re gonna get.”

Now we don’t really know why Wyc left Porzingis out of the loop about this transition. But it’s most likely got to do with Kristaps being more concerned with his on-court showings. After all, he said it himself. As one of the leaders of the Celtics locker room, it was only natural that Jayson Tatum would be one of the first to find out.
But what do you think? Should Kristaps have known about this? Or did Wyc go the right route in informing the aforementioned players?
