During the testing times of the COVID-19 pandemic, many explored their creative sides and Jimmy Butler was one among them. But who would have thought that his pop-up store in 2020 would evolve into a fully established business today? Well, the Heat star made that popular dream into a reality. However, there’s a twist. His store has a peculiar distinction when it comes to his Miami teammates.
Mike Cugno of CBS News Miami managed to catch up with the busy man behind Big Face Coffee. While digging up some details, the reporter got to know that Jimmy Butler’s closest on-court teammate, Bam Adebayo, had hoped to team up with him as a business partner. However, the 35-year-old declined the offer, which annoyed Bam.
When asked why he wouldn’t allow Bam to become a co-owner, Jimmy firmly responded, “No. I’m a let him in the door, and he can buy a $100 cup of coffee.” Butler then went on to explain, “If you are on my team or if I know that you make over, like, ten million a year, your coffee is costing $100.” Jimmy clearly isn’t familiar with the concept of a “Friends and Family Discount.” To make it clear, he boldly added, “Don’t come into my store and try a $7 cappuccino. It’s a $100 for y’all.”

Jimmy Butler is known to drink 10 cappuccinos every day, but the store wasn’t created with cost-cutting in mind. Instead, it was built to fulfill the All-Star forward’s passion and vision. “This is a dream of mine to be able to come in here, chill out,” he told Cugno. “This is like another home away from home away from home for me. I get to just meet people, vibe out with people, and become friends.”
And coffee? Well, that means “everything” to Jimmy. “It’s how I start my mornings. I’m watching my kids. We get to have our versions of coffee together.” While his children usually prefer strawberry or chocolate milk, Jimmy sticks to his cappuccino. Explaining the idea behind the store, Jimmy shared, “It gives me a reason to travel. It gives me a reason to try all different types of coffees all over the world with so many different friends that I do have. And it’s just a way to express myself. I get to sit down, try, make, read up on it.” The shop indeed is a paradise for coffee lovers, with beans sourced from coffee-growing countries like Colombia, Kenya, and others.
Four years ago, Jimmy thought to himself, “If I had my own coffee shop, like, the world would just be perfect.” With that vision in mind, he got a French press for his small setup and began brewing coffee near the NBA campus for his teammates, selling cups worth $20, according to the Miami New Times. But his coffee venture didn’t stop there. He took it online and even hosted occasional pop-ups. After years of hard work and faith in his coffee, Jimmy finally opened his grand store in the Design District of Miami.
