The New York Knicks have been struggling ever since a cloud of injuries took over their camp. Finally, in some good news for the Knicks, who lost 73-79 to the Philadelphia 76ers yesterday and are getting set for their showdown again tomorrow, key player Julius Randle might be making an appearance. Randle has been out since January 27th due to a dislocated shoulder, but Coach Thibs recently made a statement that gives a glimmer of hope to the fans.

Julius Randle sat out his 18th game on Sunday, forfeiting a $1.28 million bonus tied to playing 65 games (according to ESPN’s Bobby Marks). A similar bonus exists in his next season’s contract, which seems unlikely to be achieved now. This reduces his salary cap hit to $28.9 million and grants the Knicks a $1.28 million tax benefit this season.

As per Knicks Coach Thibs, Julius Randle is slowly getting back out there with light contact drills. However, his return remains uncertain. “He probably won’t know until he gets out there…He’s going to have to take a hit & know he’s OK. It’s just keep doing your exercises. He’s working & doing all the work multiple times a day.” Thibs explained.

Coach Thibs confirmed the team’s ability to travel which is crucial for their upcoming 4-game road trip following their Tuesday rematch with the 76ers. This stretch includes Portland, Sacramento, Golden State, and Denver.

Things got rough for the Knicks (currently 37-27) when both OG Anunoby and Randle went down. They dropped 10 out of 18 games while they were out, a stark contrast to their 12-win streak after Anunoby joined the crew in December.

The situation became even more critical when the team was forced to play without four of its five starting players – Jalen Brunson, Julius Randle, Mitchell Robinson, and OG Anunoby – due to various injuries. However, reinforcements are arriving. Brunson returned on Friday, and Shams Charania of The Athletic reports Anunoby’s expected return as early as Tuesday’s game against the 76ers. Looks like the cavalry is getting back!

On March 7th, reports emerged of Randle rejoining the team for their first road trip since his injury and progressing to light contact exercises. However, unlike Anunoby’s questionable status for Tuesday, Randle’s situation is more uncertain.

The Knicks (currently 4th in the East) need Randle healthy to make a serious playoff run. If he recovers this season, they’ll be a force to be reckoned with in the East. Knicks fans are on the edge of their seats! Will they avenge their loss to Philly, or will it be another wipeout? Comment your thoughts below!
