Knicks’ Ex-GM Scott Perry Throws 26 YO Raptors Star’s Name in a Wild Trade Scenario: “Could See Him…Fit With That Roster”

The Knicks (9-7) are coming off a 116-113 loss against the Suns on Sunday and will be hosting the Hornets at the Madison Square Garden tomorrow for a showdown. This season, they are without their General Manager Scott Perry who was let go over the summer. His contract had expired and they had no intentions of renewing it and bringing him back.

Scott served in his position for the Knicks from 2017 to 2023. Despite his departure, Perry admitted in an interview with Hoop Genius Podcast that if he were still the GM of the Knicks, he would definitely make some roster changes and move some players around in trades. In the realm of probability, he thinks that the Raptors‘ OG Anunoby wouldn’t be a bad trade-in for the Knicks.

OG Anunoby can knock down open shots

Scott acknowledges that the Knicks have depth in the team and that the one thing he always liked about the players was that they were a “very deep basketball team, deep with contributors.” With this in mind, he said that OG Anunoby would be a great fit for the roster. According to him, OG is a two-way player: he can defend, take up a challenge, and he’s strong. “He matches up well at 6’8″ against most small forwards in the league. He can knock down open shots and he can play off other players,” Perry shared.

Using their depth as an advantage, Scott explained that if the Knicks have a lot of draft picks available, they could take some expiring contracts like Evan Fournier, who they are not playing at all, and replace that with “a bigger wing player who could potentially become a starter at the small forward.” And OG would fit that description, he says.

A defensive versatility could really boost the Knicks

Scott also added that it would do the Knicks a lot of good if they could bring in someone in that 6’8″ range who could score the basket, contribute some defensive versatility, and most importantly, give the team the luxury of having RJ Barrett play at the two-guard position. “Now they’ve got a bigger team. They’ve got more size in that starting group top to bottom,” he shared.

OG Anunoby is an outstanding defender who excels both on and off the ball, ranking among the best defensive wings in the league. He is also an excellent shooter and an overall good player. In the 13 games he has played this season, he has an average of 15.5 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 2.2 assists.
