Well, its surely going to be strange seeing Klay Thompson and Kyrie Irving wearing the same uniform and playing alongside each other. For years, they have butted heads on the biggest stages and for multiple championships. And that begs the question: Will they be able to build good chemistry as teammates? Klay certainly sees it happening as he reminded the world that he has successfully teamed up with Kyrie before, not in the NBA but while representing Team USA.
Yes, during the 2014 FIBA World Cup and just two years later at the Rio Olympics, Klay and Kyrie played together to lead their country to a gold medal in both tournaments. And reminiscing about the Team USA experience with Kyrie, Klay said, “The times we’ve played together, we had great success with the USA team. So, I’m looking forward to building that chemistry with him again. And when we get more time together, it’s only going to get better.”

Klay Thompson on playing with Kyrie Irving as Mavericks teammates: “The times we’ve played together, we had great success with the USA team. So I’m looking forward to building that chemistry with him again. And when we get more time together, it’s only going to get better.

Moreover, while they have been on opposing teams throughout their NBA careers, Kyrie and Klay have always shared mutual respect. Sure enough, facing each other in three straight finals during the Cavs vs. Warriors era, they understand the level of talent and dedication it takes to reach that stage, not once but multiple times. Surprisingly enough, Kyrie was also one of the key people who motivated Klay to join the Mavs as Mark Cuban revealed the point guard had a secret meeting with the former Warriors star during the summer.
“I mean, credit goes to Nico and Kyrie, and J Kidd right. They know him, they’ve played with him, they understand him. They went out and spent time with him, got to know him better and I think Klay was ready for a move,” he stated.
So, don’t be surprised if you see Ky and Klay wreak havoc on the league right away. While Klay has fond memories of his Olympics run with Kyrie, Uncle Drew has had some recent concerns about the world event.

Kyrie Irving addresses the Team USA snub and calls out “Weird” Selection process
When the USA roster was announced for the Paris Olympics, Kyrie’s name was nowhere to be found. Making it to the Finals this year, many believed he deserved a spot. The point guard even called out USA Basketball’s selection process as they no longer hold tryouts under Grant Hill’s leadership. Meanwhile, tryouts were a norm in previous years under former Team USA MD Jerry Colangelo, and the players even had to commit to the program for three years if selected.
Sure enough, Kyrie was not happy with the big change and revealed his thoughts in a recent interview with The Athletic. “I won’t say it was hurtful not to be able to try out, but it just was weird that we weren’t able to try out and get together as a group, because the USA team is not just 12 guys or 15 guys.”

Moreover, he even listed out his international achievements which made him deserving of a spot on the roster. “I was playing on Team USA when I was 17, 18. I won three gold medals. I won when I was 18, when I was 22, and I won one when I was 24. So, there is a pride thing there, and I have history. There was such a great competitive pool that you can test yourself against because it’s the best in the world. It’s not every day you get a chance to go against (players of that caliber).”
But while Kyrie is not happy with the selection process, he has the NBA season to look forward to. And it will be interesting to see how he performs with his new teammate and old rival Klay Thompson. What are your thoughts?
