Is Klay Thompson's unwavering loyalty to the Warriors a sign of true sportsmanship or misplaced faith?

Klay Thompson has added the ‘ex’ before ‘Warriors hooper’. As we know, the shooting guard has parted ways with the Golden State Warriors after 13 years. The decision came after a 2023-24 season that saw the star not getting a place in the starting minutes. Missing the ‘respect’ factor, the 34-year-old left San Francisco and joined the Dallas Mavericks. So, how is Thompson spending his offseason this time?

Many expected Klay’s summer break to be affected as the goodbyes were bitter. However, a different picture is out there for the fans. Klay Thompson is refueling himself for the new campaign of the upcoming season. The ex-Warriors star claimed on his IG Story that he’s having the “best summer ever.” It looks like the 5x NBA All-Star is enjoying Aaliyah’s groovy number ‘One in a Million’. The song’s lyrics say: “That’s why I don’t mind to spend my life with you.” Maybe Thompson is indirectly dedicating the lyrics to the Mavs!

Meanwhile, not all ties have been cut with the Dubs. How? Well, Klay Thompson is enjoying Lester Quinones’ company at the Black Ops gyms. The ‘club’ of the elites, Chris Brickley’s gym has a central hub for many of the NBA stars of this generation. However, to see Thompson relish some good old basketball shooting with his former team’s rookie seems quite interesting. Quinones’ is the GSW‘s new gem, surely he could do wonders for the team in place of Thompson!

But, there might be some surprising news for Klay Thompson. His new team, that is, the Dallas Mavericks has signed Naji Marshall for the upcoming campaign. And, some netizens believe this was a better deal than bringing in the Warriors’ shooting guard.

Besides Klay Thompson, signing Naji Marshall was the Mavericks’ best offseason move

There could be two possible reasons as to why the internet fan base believes this. First, Naji Marshall is much younger than Klay Thompson. Moreover, Mavs GM Nico Harrison has been doing everything in his power to bring the best talent from the pool. From poaching Luka Doncic to Kyrie Irving, the front desk is giving its all to make the ultimate team. The Mavs also bolstered their wing depth by adding Quentin Grimes and bringing back Spencer Dinwiddie they’ve built up a lethal side to go on heads-on into the 2024-25 season.

But is Naji Marshall shining brighter than Klay Thompson? Fans appear to have acclimatized themselves to Marshall. This is because he is about to play one of the most crucial roles for the team. The 26-year-old is the replacement for Derrick Jones Jr., who was a part of the 3-and-D wing alongside Doncic and Irving. So, would it be a hot take to say that Naji Marshall will have a bigger role than Klay Thompson? Surely not. The ex-Warriors hooper has seen the best of both worlds of the NBA. And given his recent injury record, there could be difficulties. However, we cannot deny the fact that ‘the’ Klay Thompson is here to offer his best to the Mavs, and alongside Marshall, some never-seen-before magic could be created.
