In the trade deadline this year, the Golden State Warriors proved they value a handful of truths rather than a fistful of dollars. While ‘truth’ is more complex, it shows that despite their horrendous season, the Dubs remain loyal to their core even if that loyalty expires come the offseason. The pundits unanimously predicted one deal or another involving either Klay Thompson or Andrew Wiggins, both of whom are arguably going through the worst patch of their careers, but none of the ‘deals’ actually came to pass.

Since then, the Dubs have had a mini resurgence of sorts winning four games in a row. Their most recent was their victory against the Suns at Chase Center, where Stephen Curry nailed a three-pointer to seal the game. While it gave fans a taste of the good old days, the fact of the matter is even after the win, they have a long way to go. Now the pendulum of responsibility has swung toward Thompson, who has a few admissions of his own.

In the last few games, Klay has been coming off the bench and Jonathan Kuminga has emerged as the Dubs’s future hope after Steph’s prime. Despite always being number 2 in the Warriors Big Three, this new readjustment had many thinking the four-time all-star would part ways with the Warriors. However, his excerpt posted on X from his recent interview with The Ringer shows only acceptance of his new role.

Later in the same interview, Thompson elaborated, “The Warriors before we got there had a good history as far as Wilt and Rick Barry and TMC and We Believe. I think we elevated that to another level. I just think it’s a special, special group, and then when we win and go to so many championships together, … it’s like a bond for life.” Finally saying,It’s probably the best part of the job, honestly. Trumps the money, trumps the fame, just being able to have a bond for life with those guys.”

Despite it being hard to imagine Klay playing a diminished role in the Warriors, it’s even harder to imagine him suited up for another team.

This season he has averaged a career-low of 16.9 points a game a dismal 37.3 % from the three-point line. This clearly shows he is as far from ‘Game 6 Klay’ as the fan once knew and cheered for. With 31 games left in the remainder of the season, the fate of the Warriors core depends on the collective performance of the Dubs. Will we see the storybook ending of the last true dynasty in the NBA?
