The Golden State Warriors hit the jackpot when they drafted Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson to create the greatest shooting duo in NBA history. With both their fathers being former NBA players, some would say that ‘The Splash Brothers’ were destined for greatness. Because of the legacies their fathers left, the duo’s shoulders were burdened with high expectations since the day they stepped foot on a basketball court.
Klay addressed the high expectations of making it big in the league in the latest episode of Podcast P with Paul George.

Klay did not want to fail after all the privilege
In the episode, Klay was asked if he and Steph ever talked about their fathers being in the NBA. Klay acknowledged his privilege of being a son of the former No.1 draft pick, saying, “We better be good at hoops. We got to go to all these fancy NBA arenas growing up.”
Steph and Klay occasionally traveled with their fathers during the season and got to work on their jump shot from a very early age. We have all seen the viral footage of Steph and Seth shooting 3-pointers and half-court shots in the Raptors arena when they were kids.
With access to the best facilities from an early age, and basketball DNA running in their veins, ‘The Splash Brothers’ exceeded all the expectations when their time came to run the show.
The Splash Brothers’ fathers were no joke
Steph and Klay have turned the Warriors franchise into one of the greatest Dynasties in NBA history. They have won 4 championships in 6 finals appearances, and are regarded as one of the best duos in history. But their fathers had legendary NBA careers as well.

Stephen Curry’s father, Dell Curry was drafted in 1986 by the Utah Jazz and was a solid 12-point scorer throughout his career. He also shot over 40 percent from beyond the arc in his 16-year career. So, it is not surprising that he gave birth to the Greatest Shooter in NBA history.
Klay Thompson’s father, Mychal Thompson on the other hand had no connection with the 3-point line, because he was a 6’10 power forward who dominated inside the paint. Mychal was the first overall pick in the 1978 draft and was drafted before NBA legend Larry Bird. He averaged over 13 points, 7 rebounds, and 1 block in his 12-year NBA career.

Being the son of the No.1 pick in the draft and one of the best 3-point shooters in NBA history comes with a lot of high expectations. But with his $189 million contract with the Warriors, it is safe to say that both Steph and Klay have delivered more than what people hoped. The best part is that the duo has a lot left in the tank, and we might see more accolades and rings added to their already Hall of Fame worthy resume in the future.
