The Golden State Warriors are a team in flux. While they still retain the 4x NBA title winning core of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green, the Dubs are also focused on building for the future by incorporating players such as Jonathan Kuminga, Brandin Podziemski, and Moses Moody into their roster. This dual-timeline approach hasn’t panned out well for the Warriors this season.

With the 2023-24 season reaching its final stages, the Dubs languish in 10th place in the Western Conference standings, having won just 27 of their 53 games. One of the key reasons that the Warriors have struggled this season is Klay Thompson’s diminishing performances and production. This season, Klay is posting his lowest statistics since his sophomore season back in 2012-13. He has averaged 17.3 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game. Klay’s subpar performances have culminated in him getting benched for rookie, Brandin Podziemski.

Podziemski’s standout performances have provided a glimmer of hope in an otherwise lackluster season for the Warriors. The 20-year-old rookie has maintained averages of 9.9 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 3.9 assists in 26 minutes of playing time. However, over his last 10 games, those figures have jumped to 12.3 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 6.0 assists. Following Warriors’ 121-101 win over the Grizzlies, HC coach reserved high praise for B-Pod. He said, “Brandin’s great. He’s just a basketball player. He’s not a point. He’s not a two-guard. He’s just a basketball player…. He just knows how to play. He’s had a great rookie season. And, he’s just getting better.”

Steph Curry has also shown Podziemski love by affectionately referring to him as “My Guy” following a remarkable play during the Rising Stars tournament. However, Steph’s public acknowledgement of B-Pod’s stellar play has received mixed emotions from fans on social media.

Mixed emotions shown by Warriors’ fans

Steph calling Podziemski “My Guy” hasn’t gone down well with some fans. Some fans have suggested that B-Pod could replace Klay as the second “Splash Bro.” An X user wrote, “After that foul, Klay no longer your guy?”

While another fan going by the username of Matty Ice Tho held the same sentiments. He wrote, “What about klay?  hahah nah jk.”

However, some fans had a more positive aspect of the situation. A social media user wrote, “You are coaching him up well Chef…”

Meanwhile, another user claimed that B-Pod should win the ROY and Steph should win the MVP award. They wrote, “Curry for MVP while Podz for ROTY.”

A fan going by the username of Yourkarma requested Steph to sign Podziemski to the Curry Brand. He wrote, “Sign him GOAT! #CurryBrand.”
