Following a disappointing end to the 2023-24 campaign, the Dubs have their first team reunion. Unfortunately, the team’s star shooting guard, Klay Thompson, was nowhere to be found among the players. Notably, the leader, Stephen Curry, headed the Young Guns of the Golden State Warriors fold at the San Francisco Giants vs New York Yankees game at the Oracle Park. While China Klay hasn’t figured out his contract retention with the Dubs, the 34-year-old absence further boosted the trade rumors.
Stephen Curry has had a field day at the Giants stadium, starting with a first-pitch honor alongside legendary Dr. Clarence B. Jones. Following it, he spent some time in the middle and the Giants dug-out with his kids. And, finally, he reunited with his teammates in the stands, enjoying the game. The Dubs players who reached for the reunion were Gui Santos, Kevon Looney, Brandin Podziemski, Trayce Jackson-Davis, and Lestor Quinones.

Stephen Curry’s core teammates, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green, couldn’t make it to the cut. Green has a strong reason to miss the reunion as he spent his previous night at Minnesota, covering the Conference Finals with the TNT. But, Thompson’s absence will ring only one bell, which is the trade rumors amid his contract extension fiasco.
Thompson has been under the scanner since the start of the 2023-24 season, as he approached the free agency in the following year. Notably, he declined a $48 million 2-year extension with the team in January. Unfortunately, the star’s probability of retaining his spot on the side kept shrinking because of his poor form. Steve Kerr even made him come off the bench for the first time since his rookie.
Nevertheless, he ended the regular season on a high, averaging 21 points in the last 19 games. However, the end to the campaign wasn’t great, as he went scoreless in a do-or-die game in the Play-in tournament.
Did the Warriors make any decision in their Klay Thompson situation?
According to The Athletic‘s Anthony Slater, the Warriors haven’t made any “Notable movement” regarding the Klay Thompson situation. China Klay is currently in the last month of his contract with the Dubs and will reach the free agency next month. The management and the sharp-shooter have to come to an understanding before it’s too late. Notably, a few months ago, a report stated that Thompson had a strained relationship with Joe Lacob, the Dubs owner, after the exit of Bob Myers.
These implications will lead down to one question: Will Klay Thompson’s 13-season-long run with the Dubs end next month? Well, there are a lot of possibilities. At the same time, the management could also consider playing the star from the bench as he showed promising results.

Moreover, several reports revealed the Orlando Magic‘s hunt to rope in an experienced catch-and-shoot star in the roster. The Magic has a fairly inexperienced but potential roster along with a huge cap space. There are chances for Thompson to bid adieu to the Warriors team after helping them reach 4 rings in his 13-season-long service.
