“At this point Stephen Curry versus Sabrina Ionescu is very likely for next year…I’m told with Caitlin Clark and potentially Klay Thompson to make it 2v2”. Shams Charania had this to say last April, amid speculation over the events that would take place during the upcoming All-Star Weekend. One of the most prominent highlights of the previous event was the 3-point contest between Stephen Curry and WNBA Star Sabrina Ionescu. Given that the Bay Area would be hosting the upcoming weekend, we could safely assume that adding two other shooters to the competition would kick things up a notch. Unfortunately, Charania’s prediction came months before Klay Thompson left the Warriors for the Dallas Mavericks. However, from what Thompson recently had to say, being with another team wouldn’t stop him from being a part of the friendly competition.
In the aftermath of the Mavericks’ 130-108 win against the Washington Wizards, the 34-year-old player engaged in a Q&A session. Amongst the questions about the recent matchup was one about the All-Star Weekend. No one has confirmed that the variation of the 3-point contest would take place. Despite this, they asked Thompson if he would take part.
The player laughed, took some time to think, and said, “That’d be fun. I don’t know the details, but if the opportunity presents itself, that would be cool to be a part of.” Well, then, an invitation is all that needs to be sent.

If Stephen Curry is going to have Klay Thompson as a partner, then shouldn’t Sabrina Ionescu too? Well, as it turns out, people are floating Caitlin Clark’s name as the other part of the WNBA duo! Reggie Miller even indicated that the WNBA star would be a part of the event. The same was highlighted when Spotrac reporter Keith Smith took to X to write “Did Reggie Miller just leak the All-Star Saturday shootout plans? Sabrina Ionescu and Caitlin Clark vs Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson? If so, that would be awesome, especially with the game in the Bay Area!”
No official report has claimed what Miller exactly said. However, Smith’s words are enough to confirm that the former NBA player may have fumbled a bit. Nevertheless, this is good news. After all, Miller’s leak not only indicates the presence of two WNBA stars but also the reunion of the ‘Splash Brothers’.
Klay Thompson certainly has experience when it comes to the 3-point contest. He won the title back in 2016 after defeating both Stephen Curry and Devin Booker in the final round. Stephen Curry himself won the 2015 and 2021 contests. While Curry did win the competition against Sabrina Ionescu during the previous All-Star weekend, she did provide some tough competition. As for Caitlin Clark, before she completed her college tenure, the then-Iowa Hawkeyes player made her 163rd three-pointer to surpass the earlier records set by both Steph Curry and Darius McGhee. Therefore, one can only speculate how the competition with the four stars would go. Furthermore, given the ‘Caitlin Clark’ effect, the 23-year-old could solve one of Adam Silver’s biggest concerns about the upcoming event: Viewership.

Even if the NBA brings in Klay Thompson, one question remains. That is: Will Stephen Curry want to play alongside the now Mavericks player? After all, Thompson’s shift brought a 13-year-long partnership to an end. As it turns out, however, the reunion may very well have been the 3-point leader’s idea.
Shams Charania highlighted that Stephen Curry and Sabrina Ionescu were looking to lure Caitlin Clark and Klay Thompson
Shams Charania initially speculated that Klay Thompson and Caitlin Clark could be a part of the next All-Star event. Therefore, it felt appropriate that he provide any update regarding the event. The ESPN analyst gave out something back in November. Just as Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson had played against each other for the first time in an NBA regular season game. Speaking during a segment of NBA Countdown, Charania said “Sources tell me that Curry and Ionescu are continuing discussions on bringing back that shootout. There is plans for that. But also potentially including Klay Thompson and Caitlin Clark in that competition this year.” Thompson’s name would certainly have not been touted if Stephen Curry had not wanted him there.

The All-Star Weekend is just weeks away. Therefore, the fact that Klay Thompson still isn’t aware of the details is a bit concerning. At the same time, the Mavericks player may simply be pulling off an ‘Andrew Garfield hiding No Way Home spoilers’ move. He may simply be creating intrigue. No matter what, viewers will tune in to the All-Star weekend to see how the Warriors, especially Stephen Curry, will pull off the event.
