This week’s All-Star weekend is set to stage an unprecedented event. For the first time, the WNBA will face off against the NBA. Sabrina Ionescu, the New York Liberty star who set the three-point contest stage on fire will take on the greatest perimeter marksman, Stephen Curry. The intrigue for the event is building graciously. Fans and players have made their picks. Most sided with the Chef. But his closest NBA ally, Klay Thompson didn’t.

When asked about who he felt would win the three-point showdown, Klay said, “I got the Bay Area’s finest…” You might think he is surely hyping up his long-time teammate and best friend Curry. However, the truth was he claimed Ionescu was going to blow his fellow Splash Brother out of the water.

During the latest episode of the Draymond Green podcast, the Warriors forward provided context as the why Klay Thompson would betray his shooting buddy.

Green was a headline-maker this week. His ferocious interaction with Jusuf Nurkic and even firing back at Kevin Durant, the defensive forward held nothing back. He also spoke about the upcoming All-Star weekend, giving his predictions for all the events. When speaking of the Steph vs Ionescu shooting contest, he addressed the elephant in the room.

“The world is all like ‘What! Klay picked Sabrina over Steph?'” said Green.

Klay Thompson loves to poke Stephen Curry

When explaining Thompson’s surprising allegiance with the rival, Green said he loved to “poke” Stephen Curry almost like a little brother would to their elder sibling.

“Of course, Klay picked Sabrina over Steph. Klay needles Steph every chance he gets. If you are ever around, if you ever see all of us interacting, it’s constantly Klay just poking at Steph. It’s almost like your little brother trying to poke at you like every change that he gets. So I am not at all surprised that Klay picked Sabrina,” Green explained.

Klay Thompson and Stephen Curry have been the best of friends for over a decade. They have won championships together, went through bitter losses, and spent vacations together. In no world will Thompson ever genuinely betray his closest friend in the NBA. It was all just friendly banter, something that was evident from his relaxed demeanor when picking Sabrina Ionescu.

However, for those who think it’s an easy win for Curry, that’s far from the case. Ionescu holds the record for most points scored in the contest. She only missed one shot last year! Her performance sparked these talks, and the ultimate three-point contest was born. Curry has won the contest on two prior occasions. But this victory will certainly rank above them.
