“It’s still surreal that he’s on the same team as his dad.” Anthony Davis was just one voice amongst many who spoke out on what it was really like to see Bronny play alongside LeBron James this season. The first father-son duo to play in the NBA as teammates, achieves a historical feat, creating a sight that we may not see again for the foreseeable future. Therefore, no matter what stigma of ‘nepotism’ or ‘favoritism’ the LeBron-Bronny pairing carries, the son of another retired NBA legend is all for it!
Earlier today, Kiyan Anthony made an appearance on Angel Reese’s podcast. She touched base on the 17-year-old’s bond with Bronny. After all, given the friendship that their fathers- LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony have developed, it would make sense for their sons to be at least on a first-name basis. Kiyan revealed that he congratulated Bronny after the Lakers drafted him 55th overall in the draft, but he hasn’t been able to have an “in-depth” conversation with the 20-year-old yet.
Despite this, Kiyan still had to admit that Bronny getting the chance to play alongside his father, an opportunity that he himself missed out on, was nothing short of memorable. “That’s crazy like father-son in the NBA, that’s crazy,” said Kiyan. “And then Bron still doing everything that he doing and then Bron (LeBron) trying to make his way up. That’s fire.”

Carmelo Anthony bid adieu to his NBA career in 2022, after carving a journey 19 years long. While doubts had certainly crossed his mind about whether that was the right decision, he reveals being at peace with it, stating, “It’s weird to use the word happy, but I’m happy. It took a lot for me to get to that point, and to be able to see it all clearly. But I do.”
As a result, the former player won’t come out of retirement if given the choice, as seen when he wouldn’t even agree to join Team USA if the choice to do so had been opened to him! Despite this, Angel Reese still attempted to make an appeal.
“Tell him to come out of retirement. Melo!” said the WNBA star on Unapologetically Angel. “Have you asked him? For real? Melo….come out of retirement.” From the looks of it, however, Melo has made his decision and seems quite content with it.
Being 3 years younger than Bronny, Kiyan Anthony is currently choosing the college to which he would take his talents. Given the NIL deal he has secured and the impression he created during his high school tenure, there is a good chance that Melo’s son joins the same path as Bronny James, Stephen Curry, Austin Rivers, etc, by following in their father’s footsteps. However, the hooper has already decided that even if he gets the chance to play in the NBA, there is one thing that he won’t do similar to the Los Angeles Lakers star.

Kiyan Anthony does not want a 22-year career like LeBron James!
What’s your perspective on:
Is LeBron James setting an impossible standard for future NBA father-son duos?
Have an interesting take?
Though it may not be what fans desire, several NBA players announce their retirement knowing that they cannot perform as effectively, as they did earlier. LeBron James is yet to be among those players. Along with being the oldest active athlete in the NBA, he currently ties with Vince Carter for the most seasons (22). Meanwhile, Melo ties with 14 other players for the 12th spot with 19 seasons. Despite this, Kiyan seems to have already decided, before even starting, that he’d rather have a career like his Dad than LeBron’s.
“I don’t know if I could be on something LeBron-type like 20-something years. … I want to play in the league, 22 years is crazy,” Kiyan said, during the interview with Angel Reese. “(My dad played) 20 years. … I could do 15-20 but I feel like once you 37, 38, your body start- I don’t know how he do it.”

Similarly to LeBron James, Melo continues to be supportive of his son’s basketball aspirations. So, in the next years, while enthusiasts will keep an eye on how Bronny will continue to fare, a few of them might also track Kiyan Anthony’s progress through college.
