As we get closer to the trade deadline, insiders and analysts spit plenty of trade rumors. While most of them seem unrealistic, some look extremely achievable. In some cases, those trade rumors turn out to be true and today, we bring you something similar. Amid the strong trade news surrounding the Sacramento Kings‘ latest inclusion, DeMar DeRozan, leading NBA Insider, Mike Scotto dropped two names from the SacTown side that might soon be shown the exit door.
On Sunday, Yes Network’s Meghan Triplett stopped Scotto for a quick chat and asked about the recent trend in the trade land. The senior Insider, who addressed that there are multiple teams and players involved in talks, said, “Primarily it’s around teams that are underwhelming at this point. First of all, I look at the Sacramento Kings.”
Heading into the season, the Kings looked absolutely lethal on paper with the likes of DeRozan and Domantas Sabonis in the front court and De’Aaron Fox in the backcourt. However, on the points table, the team has found itself behind the SA Spurs in the 12th seed with a 12-13 record. The team definitely needs CPR before it’s too late for the season.

Speaking of which Michael Scotto added, “They made a big splash to get DeMar DeRozan in the offseason but they are in the fringe of the Play-In Tournament that’s not where they wanna be so look for Kevin Huerter, Trey Lyles that two contracts combined with their future first-round picks to be dangled.”
At Barclays Center on Sunday, @Meghan_Triplett spoke with Senior NBA Insider @MikeAScotto of @HoopsHype about trade possibilities around the league, including Brooklyn, and big names who could be dealt! pic.twitter.com/FfO2qvPewx

The Kings have one first-round pick each for the next three years so they have achieved security on that front. Meanwhile, they have to find the perfect replacements for Kevin Heurter and Trey Lyles to strengthen their second unit, offloading their annual contracts worth $16.8 million and $8 million, respectively. Amid Heuter and Lyles trade talk, can DeMar DeRozan slip away?
Will DeMar DeRozan stay with the Kings?
Looking at how things have panned out, DeMar DeRozan’s spot on the team isn’t solidified. Heading into the season, the team signed 5 new contracts and each contract will be restricted to trade before the deadline. However, the team lifted the restriction on four players.

Those four players are DeMar DeRozan, Jordan McLaughlin, Orlando Robinson, and Alex Len. And the player whose contract is still secured is Malik Monk, the star of the second unit. Moreover, looking at the first four players, only DeRozan is the eye-catching name in the trade market. So, there are chances that the Sac-Town team’s chairperson, Vivek Ranadive, might fancy his chance of sending this promising power forward out.
Compared to the last three seasons, the star had averaged 25.4 ppg. However, DeRozan took a considerable hit this season, as he averaged only 22.5 ppg. It’s also important to note that DeRozan reached a team that has two offensive spearheads, Sabonis and Fox. So, the star had to give up some of his points to them. Hence, it’s a decent number. At the same, the Kings can send him out in replacement for a few role players. What do you think? Let us know in the comments below.
