The Sacramento Kings claimed victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves with 124-111 tonight. Starting off great, the Kings led the first quarter with 38-31. De’Aaron Fox stole the spotlight throughout the night, as he came forward to help with the team. The most impressive feat was in the second quarter when he landed a monster dunk over all four Timberwolves defenders looking on.

It must be what set the tone for the crowd in Minneapolis. By the fourth quarter, the proud Kings fans were chanting “Light the beam”.

With tonight’s win, the Timberwolves lost their chance at landing a spot in the quarterfinals. But the Beam Team has topped the leaderboard in West Group C with three wins. With a re-energized Fox back with a vengeance, it was only a matter of time before they got their groove back. And the Kings fans know that.

Though it looked like Sacramento would leave the Wolves in the dust, Anthony Edwards made sure not to let them off the hook so easily. Minnesota’s Nickeil Alexander-Walker dropped a three-pointer shortly after entering halftime, bringing the scores to 72-70. KAT and Ant both put their best foot forward.

Towns clinched a double-double with 27 points and 11 rebounds. While Edwards led the scoring with 35 points, he ensured to not let his pack stay too far behind the Kings. This loss, though after a well-played game, will hurt them more because it’s their first loss in eight home games.

But their 11-3 start to the season still holds as the best record in the NBA. And the “Ant-Man” is not to be dismissed easily. So it won’t be long before the Timberwolves are going to regroup. Going back to the “beam,” why don’t we take a look back to its origins?

How De’Aaron Fox and the Kings became the “Beam Team”

The idea behind “Light the Beam” is credited to the Kings’ president of business operations, John Rhinehart. Ranadive immediately accepted it, and the beam slowly started taking shape. With so many options at their fingertips for a prime location, the team finally decided to go with their own building.

September 16, 2022, was chosen as the date for the unveiling of the purple beam. Known locally as 916 Day in honor of the Kings area code, it seemed fitting. But it was only by November 13 that an official video of the lighting was posted online.

Since then, it has become the Sacramento mantra for success. So, it’s no surprise that the Kings fans would use that to motivate the team. Here’s to hoping for more “light the beam” opportunities in the future!
