Has Adam Silver's leadership really killed the NBA, or is it just evolving with the times?

The media landscape is changing for the NBA and WNBA, marking the end of the 30-year-long partnership with TNT and the hearts of many basketball fanatics. Hence, the nuances of the game that they experienced on shows like ‘Inside the NBA’ are likely to come to an end. Though long-time viewers had expectations, rather hope, that Warner Bros. Discovery would sort out a way and re-sign. However, sadly, from the emotional perspective, after all the hopes of millions of fans, Adam Silver has moved on from TNT.

The NBA has announced its long-term deal with Amazon. “Warner Bros. Discovery’s recent proposal did not match Amazon Prime Video’s offer, and. therefore, we have entered into a long-term arrangement with Amazon.” It seems they’ve moved on from Warner Bros. Discovery’s $1.8 billion/year offer and will move ahead with the 11-year $76 billion deal that its Board of Governors approved last week.

Further in the announcement, Adam Silver and Co. looked forward to the NBA’s media broadcasting future while bidding adieu to TNT’s decades-long contribution to the sport, “Our new arrangement with Amazon supports this goal by complementing the broadcast, cable, and streaming packages that are already part of our new Disney and NBCUniversal arrangements. We are grateful to Turner Sports for its award-winning coverage of the NBA and look forward to another season of the NBA on TNT.”

The decision came as a blow to the TNT crew as well since one of the prominent analysts on the ‘Inside the NBA’ panel and NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal posted clips of his memories with the beloved show alongside his pal Charles Barkley. Shaq shared two core memories on his Instagram Stories, one of which was the Chuckster delivering commentary in his usual satirical way, leaving the Big Shamrock laughing with tears in his eyes.

Another incident that he remembered was when Shaq pulled off a WWE move on Charles Barkley. It created a hilarious situation with Chuck lying on the ground, shouting, “No, Shaq! I’m hurt! I’m hurt!” With what Big Diesel shared on his social media, it is obvious how strongly the show’s memories are etched in his and everyone else’s minds.

But Adam Silver did what he needed to do for the financial growth of the league, and now most of the NBA community is not satisfied with the Commissioner. As they made the official announcement, the fanbase did not take a lot of time to pull up social media.

Adam Silver is targeted by the community for ‘ruining all the good things’

When AP insider Tim Reynolds broke the announcement of Warner Bros. Discovery’s offer rejection, the faithful followers of ‘Inside the NBA’ did not take it well, since 2024-25 will be its last season. One of the fans on X even accused Adam Silver of killing the NBA because, as per him, this TV show was the soul of the league off the court with all the shenanigans and analysis of the game from their very own hoop legends. This harsh comment from the user read, “Adam Silver has officially killed NBA national TV games.”

Another fan knew how much the fans had lost after the announcement since their favorite show wouldn’t be available to them anymore. It was a mode of pure basketball-centric entertainment for the NBA community, and unfortunately, it is being stripped away from them after so long. “Adam silver just ruined all the good things he’s done with the NBA by doing this,” the netizen wrote.

For one of the fans on X, the show ‘Inside the NBA’ along with its panel, was the means of entertainment itself. That’s why when he got to know about the announcement, the program which was a binge-watch for many had them devastated, as nothing equals the insightful commentary that resonated so well with the viewers, including different perspectives and antics of Shaq, Charles Barkley, Ernie Johnson Jr., and Kenny Smith. “its so over,” the fan wrote.

One of them threatened the league and Adam Silver, saying, Tell the @NBA we aren’t going to watch if they kill off our favorite NBA show. We want Ernie, Kenny, Shaq, and Chuck.” It depicts how much the game meant to the NBA community. Another fan got too emotional with his sentiments as he ranted, “Adam Silver will pay for his crimes”.

From the looks of it, the fans might never forgive Adam Silver for moving ahead and bringing a change in the NBA. Although the Commissioner sympathized with the fanbase in July, saying, “I apologize that this has been a prolonged process because I know they’re committed to their jobs. I know people who work in this industry. It’s a large part of their identity and their family’s identity, and no one likes this uncertainty,” the official announcement seems to have a nerve for many.
