Is Bryce James already outshining Bronny, or is it too early to make that call?

Bronny James’ latest form doesn’t seem to help him. The 19-year-old, who struggled to make a mark in the Summer League debut for the LA Lakers, finally found his rhythm in the last two games. In the first two games, he shot at 22.6% FG, and 0% three-point shooting from the 14 attempts. However, he turned it around in the next two games, dropping 25 points with 47% FG with four 3-pointers. While he received rare support for the sudden spike, it went down the drain immediately after his younger brother Bryce James snatched the limelight.

Besides the high school heroics for Sierra Canyon, Bryce plays for Strive For Greatness (SFG) in Nike’s Elite Youth Basketball League. And fans often get to see highlight reels of impressive plays from the league on social media. Moreover, the 17-year-old has been a regular customer at the highlight reels with his athleticism. In the latest feature, the rising star left everyone floored with a bold block against a thunderous dunk.

Fans went crazy over the video and lauded Bryce James for his effort. But, at the same time, a section of the audience went after Bronny James and trolled him despite his decent efforts. A fan wrote, “This is the kid with the bloodline”, directly attacking Bronny.

Ironically, Bronny James received huge praise for his defensive abilities even though he struggled on the other end of the court. These defensive abilities also included several blocks and steals. Especially in the California Classic Summer League, he recorded 3 blocks and 3 steals in two games. Nevertheless, these fans put them behind to troll Bronny.

Fans call out Bronny after Bryce James’ heroic block

Nepotism cries were all over the NBA world when the Lakers drafted LeBron James‘ eldest son. Especially after his underwhelming college record for USC, averaging 4.8 ppg, coming off the bench. However, the LA side ignored all the noise and rested their faith in the youngster. And, Bronny, after a shaky start to the Summer League, seemed to have hit the pace in the last two games. While it subsided the nepotism criticism on the Lakers for drafting the rising star, Bryce’s latest highlight brought it back again. A fan wrote“When Bryce gets drafted it will be because he actually earned it”.

This leaves Bronny with no option other than to carry his stride forward and get consistent with his performances. And this could be the only way for him to stress that he belongs in the league.

On the other hand, a few fans have dropped comparisons between the two brothers. Bryce seemed to be the one who impressed the lot. A fan wrote“He’s going to be better than Bronny”. Moreover, this isn’t the first time when the brothers were compared. Bryce, who is already 6 ‘6 tall, is expected to grow taller than his dad in the coming years. Meanwhile, Bronny is only around 6 ‘2 and very less likely to reach up to the 4x Champion’s height. This very reason triggered the fans to debate that Bryce would play better than his elder brother.

On the other hand, ESPN’s Brian Windhorst stated that Bryce is more naturally talented” than Bronny in an interview. Nevertheless, Bronny can shut down his critics only with a consistent run. Will he continue to improve in the Purple and Gold uniform? Let us know in the comments.
