With LeBron courtside, does Bronny feel the pressure or the pride of carrying the James legacy?

Bronny James begins scripting his new chapter! Some may call this a side quest. The 20-year-old’s NBA glitz and glamor days seem to be over, and he sets out on the journey to improve his core game. Tonight, the hoopster debuted for the LA Lakers‘ G-League affiliate, the South Bay Lakers, facing the Salt Lake City Stars. Moreover, James Jr. wasn’t alone on this occasion, as his family, barring ONE missing member, radiated warmth from the courtside. Let’s find out how things have panned out so far.

After playing amidst a rousing crowd at the Crypto.com Arena Bronny James laced up to play at a much smaller arena, the UCLA Health Center. Several reports already claimed that the tickets were sold out days before his debut! Nevertheless, the rising superstar had his family first in attendance, filling the courtside seats.

A video clip by The Athletic’s Jovan Buha, showed visuals of LeBron, along with his wife Savannah, daughter Zhuri, and Bronny’s grandma Gloria, settling down. Only Bryce was missing! Notably, Bryce Maximus James attended the well-decorated NBA father-son debut game, sitting alongside his sister at the Staples Center. Tonight, he couldn’t make it, and there’s no clarity behind his absence.

Nevertheless, looking at his NBA performances, he barely had any minutes to prove himself. Despite that, Jr. had managed to record an FG from the baseline during the game against his dad’s former team, the Cavs. Now, let’s a take closer look at his G League debut.

In the NBA, JJ Redick used Bronny James as a rotational guard, but tonight, he started the game as a small forward. Not only that, he managed to drop a baseline jumper in the opening minute, making the first bucket of the game! Poetically, it was the same shot he dropped in Cleveland. And, to make it more wholesome, LeBron’s first-ever NBA bucket had also come through a baseline jumper.

Watch out for Bryce James! Another baseline jumper is in the making! Following the opening bucket, James Jr. didn’t make much noise offensively in the first half, recording 4 points with 2-6 FG. However, the young gun made his presence felt on the defensive end, recording a steal and a block. It’s just a start, and the team has 49 more games left in the season.

One thing that Bronny James has always lacked is game experience. Following his cardiac arrest, he’s had very little time to prepare for his freshman year. He ended up playing 25 games, coming off the bench and then he straight-up landed in the big league. So, this G League season will help him develop his game and also gain some experience.
