It was all love between the Cleveland crowd at the Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse and former NBA champion with the Cavs, Kevin Love, on Wednesday night. The crowd erupted into cheers and applause when he pointed to his ring finger, no prizes for guessing why. However, this may not be the extent of the Cavs’ gratitude.
Nevertheless, Kevin made sure the Cavs’ fans knew how much he appreciated this reception. “Cleveland – I never got a chance to say goodbye after my departure just over two seasons ago. It was too emotional for me coming to an end of a 9 year run that looking back was the most important and meaningful time of my life,” read the caption of his tribute post on Instagram.
” Thank you for the ovation last night and the continued support since becoming a Cavalier in the summer of 2014. I will always have love and support for the organization and beyond. Respect & Gratitude 2️⃣1️⃣6️⃣ 🏆x💍,” he finished.

Clearly, it’s all love between Kevin and the club he helped win an NBA title for back in 2016. Everything about that title run was legendary. LeBron James was back in Cleveland after being in Miami for 4 years. The Cavs hadn’t won a championship in 52 years. And to cap it all of, Love and co. bounced back from a 3-1 deficit in the NBA Finals to ultimately clinch the title.
Kevin Love was instrumental in that series as he guarded the Splash Brothers, Steph Curry and Klay Thompson, like his life depended on it. And Wednesday’s crowd reaction was a testament to how grateful the Cleveland faithful are for the 36-year-old’s hustle in that series. But like we told you earlier, this might not be all that’s in store for Kevin.

Kevin Love tells national reporter that the Cleveland Cavaliers plan to retire his jersey
The way the crowd reacted to Kevin Love’s first game in Cleveland after leaving was insane. But it seems the lovely gestures keep coming his way. And soon, Cavs fans can get used to seeing Kevin’s no. 0 jersey hanging in the rafters of the Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse.
What’s your perspective on:
Should the Timberwolves honor Kevin Love like the Cavs, or was his impact there less significant?
Have an interesting take?
Kevin informed Tom Withers, reporter for the Associated Press, that the Cleveland Cavaliers plan to retire his no. 0 jersey soon. His jersey is set to be hung next to Nick Gilbert’s jersey. Gilbert sadly passed away from neurofibromatosis type 1 at the young age of 26. However, he was a lucky charm in his time with the Cavs. How else would you explain them getting the no.1 pick and landing Kyrie Irving back in the 2011 NBA Draft?

Retiring Kevin’s jersey isn’t just about his stats for the Cavs. It’s about what he meant to the organization and the city. Yes, he brought them a championship in 2016. But he also stuck around after they lost the finals in 2017 and 2018. And you can’t measure that with stats!
