After James’ former teammate silenced critics, fellow NBA star Kevin Durant‘s gesture with Premier League club Chelsea catches the attention of fans. It could potentially stir up some rivalry with another basketball legend, LeBron James.

KD represents LeBron James’ team’s rival club
Apart from his illustrious basketball career, Durant has shown a keen interest in soccer. His investment company, Thirty-Five Ventures, has been actively involved in the soccer world. In 2020, the company invested in Major League Soccer (MLS) club Philadelphia Union, marking Durant’s first venture into the soccer domain. Additionally, Durant and his business partner, Rich Kleiman, made another investment in the women’s club NJ/NY Gotham FC in the previous year. It further cements their commitment to soccer development.
During Chelsea’s pre-season tour in the USA, the Phoenix Suns star received a warm welcome from the club when Chelsea defender Ben Chilwell presented him with a customized Chelsea home shirt.

The shirt bore Durant’s name and his jersey number, 35. The NBA star’s presence at the Premier League Summer Series match between Chelsea and Fulham added excitement and glamour to the event.
King James and Durant may develop a friendly rivalry because of Durant’s new relationship with the London-based soccer club. Even though Durant has a less substantial connection to Chelsea than James does to Liverpool; it still adds an intriguing aspect to their different sports ownership endeavors.
Their interactions could draw interest from fans and sports enthusiasts around the world. After all, they are two basketball legends, with increasing prominence in the soccer world.

Can Kevin Durant still own a stake in Chelsea FC?
Exactly two months ago, the ownership of Chelsea FC underwent a historic change. Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich sold the club for a staggering $5.4 billion to a consortium led by American billionaire Todd Boehly. The sale came amidst months of uncertainty, following Abramovich’s decision to part ways with the team in the aftermath of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Kevin Durant already holds an interest in the world of soccer through his investment company, Thirty-Five Ventures. The company owns stakes in MLS club Philadelphia Union and women’s club NJ/NY Gotham FC. His association with Chelsea FC during their USA pre-season tour could ignite an interest in the English Premier League club.
