The NBA had a strict policy when it comes to substance use and abuse for quite some time. And Marijuana was one of the items that was on the list of banned substances for the league. However, after the legalization of Marijuana, the league too eased up on it and took it off the list. And players may have Kevin Durant to thank for that.

Like many NBA players, Kevin Durant too has his money invested in multiple business ventures. Notably, some of them are Marijuana-related businesses which made KD an unofficial advocate for the bud.

He then went on to say, “So once we got that point it’s like okay how do we back out of this? The league meeting on how do we take this off the list without having right-wing conservatives go nuts about out-of-control Reefer Madness leave right? And so that opportunity presented itself perfectly during the pandemic.”

“As we were going in the bubble, they just quietly announced ‘We’re not gonna test for weed anymore’…and then eventually it came off the list,” explained the 44-year-old.

Amin Elhassan then talked about what the Slim Reaper had to do with all this.

He said, Kevin Durant walks in like Moses, talks about let my people go when it comes to weed.” He then went on to add, “I don’t doubt that he had a conversation with Adam Silver about it. I doubt that that’s why weed is now off the list.”

Elhassan goes on to describe how the conversation must’ve gone down between KD and NBA Commissioner Adam Silver. They also talk about the interaction between Durant and Adam Silver when he could smell the aroma of weed coming off KD as well.
