Kevin Durant teaming up with Karrahbooo—genius move or desperate attempt to stay relevant?

With the astronomical rise of internet fame, online streamers have become some of the biggest celebrities in today’s world. And there are not many names currently in that space bigger than IShowSpeed. Famous for his outrageous personality and unusual antics, Speed has collaborated with several big-name superstars of the sports world, including Zlatan, Ronaldo, and more. However, not many expected to see him share the same screen with Kevin Durant. As expected, their brief meeting turned into a wild encounter, which even left the fans badmouthing KD as he was left with no choice but to defend himself with a famous rapper’s quote.

While KD did collaborate with IShowSpeed by playing a game of HORSE with him and even sitting together for Logan Paul’s Impaulsive pod, the Slim Reaper did not seem too pleased with the teenager’s antics throughout their meeting, which led to a pretty awkward interaction. Moreover, Speed even sensed that Durant was not too fond of him.

He ended the video with a disappointed look on his face, saying, “It was fun playing with KD, but I lost. I don’t think he really liked me, but it was fun. He don’t know that you know I watched him a lot growing up, bought all his shoes KD 7s, KD 8s, KD9s. That’s my boy.”

And fans noticed Durant’s seemingly cold attitude toward IShowSpeed as one netizen thrashed him on X saying, “Kevin Durant has to be one of the most miserable humans on this planet. No wife, no kids, just basketball. I have not seen him genuinely happy since he was in OKC.” Sure enough, Durant, not shying away from any online confrontation, quickly responded to the random fan’s tweet.

He wrote, “‘Tweetin like the rent due’ or whatever karrahbooo said,” referring to a quote by famous Atlanta rapper KARRAHBOOO. The Suns’ veteran made an unusual reference to the rapper’s viral collaboration for ‘2 HANDS 2 EYES 10 WHIPS/RENT DUE’. The original line in the track’s lyrics is “Penthouse with a view, Rappin’ like the rent due.”

Although KD did seem a little taken aback by Speed’s antics, it is possible that his cold behavior was just a part of the act, as the NBA vet was also seen having some hilarious exchanges with the streamer throughout the video.

How did the Kevin Durant-IShowSpeed collaboration even happen?

Well, we might never have witnessed the linkup between KD and IShowSpeed if it wasn’t for Durant’s new partnership with Logan Paul and KSI’s hydration drink, Prime. Joining the long list of Prime athletes like Israel Adesanya and Patrick Mahomes, KD became the newest member of the elite group. And that’s why he showed up to Logan’s podcast as a guest and even shot a video with Speed.

“What the PRIME team has built in such a short time is incredible, and I’m as excited about the growth of their business as I am about the product… I’m looking forward to working together,” KD remarked about his latest partnership.

Selling over $1.2 billion worth of Prime last year, Logan and KSI’s venture has become one of the fastest-growing businesses in the world. And with them rapidly expanding their reach by collaborating with superstar athletes like KD and Mahomes, along with partnerships with soccer teams and even WWE, they are heading toward an even more profitable year in 2024.

Moreover, the KD-Prime collab was announced at the perfect time as he’s been gearing up for the Olympics. The company launched a personalized KD Prime drink in Team USA packaging. “In addition to his impressive on court abilities, KD is an exceptional role model for young athletes. We’re incredibly happy to welcome KD to the PRIME team!” Logan and KSI said in a statement.
