If history is any indication, Kevin Durant is not one to shy away from responding to online criticism. Either from his supposed burner accounts or the verified ones, KD frequently gets into a heated back-and-forth with fans to defend his honor. And with him being the center of trade talks once again this summer, he was called out on social media by a fan after the Houston Rockets’ latest move reportedly failed to get the job done. But the Slim Reaper was ready with another masterful comeback.
In a blockbuster deal ahead of draft night, the Rockets have gained control of the Suns’ 2027 first-round pick from the Nets that they bagged during the Durant deal last year. And many believed that this deal could be a way for the Rockets to facilitate a trade with the Suns in the future which would bring KD to Houston. However, the Suns made their intentions clear about not willing to trade the Slim Reaper this summer and keeping their core group intact for next season.
Amid the Rockets’ failed pursuit of Durant, one fan took to social media to raise fingers at the two-time Champion’s reputation in the league today, “KD so sorry. look at what his reputation is now lol.” Durant was not willing to let a random fan tarnish his reputation and responded, “Well check ball then.” Realizing that most fans who talk ill about a player on social media are nowhere close to as talented at playing basketball as any NBA player, KD was quick to tell the critical fan to put his money where his mouth is and he’s fired back at fans numerous times.

Yes, even though Durant has won two titles in his career and is arguably the most lethal offensive player ever, many still disregard his achievements because he joined a 73-win Warriors team right after losing to them in the playoffs eight years ago. And even veteran analyst Stephen A. Smith called it, “The weakest move I’ve seen from a superstar.” But that is all talk from the past now. What’s the future looking like for KD?
Houston’s Kevin Durant pursuit might not be over yet
While Mat Ishbia wants to run it back with the trio of KD, Beal, and Booker next season and has closed the doors for Durant to leave this summer, the Rockets still have hope that they might be able to achieve their goal next season. Keeping the Suns’ 2027 draft pick as leverage, the Rockets could check again in the middle of next season if the Suns have changed their mind about trading Durant. Depending on how the Suns start next season, they could consider regaining control of their lost draft pick which will help them get back into the rebuilding phase.
Even Wojnarowski saw this as a possibility going forward, reporting, “Suns have said they’re keeping Durant for now, but that could change next season. But now, Houston has the picks to make the Suns whole again.” Moreover, the Rockets could strengthen their hand even more, as they could also end up with the Suns’ 2029 pick based on contingencies with the deal.

Also, they have decided to exercise their team options on Jeff Green, Jock Landale, and Jae’Sean Tate’s contracts for next season, all of whom can be used as leverage to make a big trade. So, while these moves might not have given the Rockets instant results, there is a possibility of them being able to bring a major shift in the league very soon.
