Kevin Durant went off again, but this time not only on the court. After Team USA bagged a 5th straight Gold in the Olympics, KD was out on the hunt and this time Dennis Schroder became the unfortunate prey to the Slim Reaper. Like always, he sneakily checked the receipts he kept and Schroder’s name was on the list. After the late drama in the hooper’s game against Serbia, the German fired a warning shot. The swingman cast a shadow of doubt over Team USA’s ability to beat France in their own backyard. But when the dust settled on Saturday, KD finally broke his silence with a gold medal around his neck.

Following the 98-87 win over France in the 2024 Paris Olympics final, Kevin Durant shared a 3-worder via his X account. The 4-time gold medalist wrote, “ENTERTAINMENT & IQ” with a picture of Team USA posing with the winners’ medals. This was a direct reference to Schroder’s comment, who said, “European basketball is no entertainment, it’s straight IQ basketball. Straight coaching.”

“It’s filled with really really high-IQ players who know how to play the game. Teams like Serbia, Greece, Spain, France, and Germany—there are so many teams that know how to play and are athletic,” Schroder had commented.

According to Dennis, there is a growing influence from the European hoopers in the NBA. The varying MVP trend over the years is proof of it with 5 Europeans winning it in the last 6 seasons. But questioning the IQ of a squad that has a combined 14 NBA rings among them was a bit over the top, don’t you think?

Kevin Durant’s history of handling business on social media made this clapback a predictable one, as it became a matter of what, from a matter of when. Olympic KD was in full swing on the Bercy Arena hardwood as well as he made himself a part of Team USA history.

When Kevin Durant came together with LeBron James and Steph Curry to assemble the Avengers Team, everyone expected it would be trouble for the competition. The veterans of the NBA and international scene did not fail to deliver, as if there was ever any doubt. Despite his injury during the whole of Team USA’s training camp last month, Durant featured in the opening game of the Olympics. He made his mark with a game-high 23 points, making it glaringly obvious why he is the record scorer of Team USA in the event.

Now after 5 more games, KD’s total points in the Olympics stand at 518, making him the leading scorer of Team USA. In the win against France, Kevin Durant registered 15 points from 5-12 shooting from the floor.

This took his average scoring to 13.8, coupled with 3.2 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game. But the biggest achievement for KD is his record fourth Olympic gold medal, putting him on the exclusive list which starts and finishes with him. But will there be a number 5?

When asked about it, KD’s answer was brief. “We’ll see,” the 35-year-old said in the post-game press conference, as his two veteran pals, Steph and LeBron have publicly indicated towards hanging their kicks from the international stage after today.
