Ever since Kendrick Perkins retired as a player, he has had a solid career in the media. As a regular on ESPN and several podcasts, Big Perk always has a unique take. But, not all of his opinions are received well by his listeners and the people from the community. He recently slammed his old rival LeBron James for speaking his mind. Within minutes, he was on the receiving end of the King’s wrath on social media. However, it did garner a rather smug and unusual response from the analyst, leaving Kevin Durant in disbelief too.

As it turns out, Bron unfollowed Perkins from multiple social media platforms. Responding to this online attack by James, he said, “Everybody didn’t follow Jesus, I’ll be OK.” KD intervened after listening to his former teammate’s response. In a summary post by Overtime, the Suns veteran quoted, “Bro think he Jesus. Lmao.” But what led to LeBron taking this public action against Perkins?

Maybe some of it had to do with the way the former Celtics star reacted to LeBron’s comments about still wanting to be teammates with Kyrie Irving. Discussing Kyrie’s greatness during his Mind The Game podcast, the Laker made a heartfelt confession, “I’m so f**king mad that I am not his running mate anymore. I just remember those times.”

While his comments were in admiration of Kyrie, Perkins saw it as him stealing the spotlight from the ongoing finals. “Here we go again. Bron weaseling his way into somebody else’s moment… This is not about you! Your team is at home.” So, unfollowing Perkins might be a silent statement from Bron, hinting he heard what Perk said and was not pleased about it.

Why did Kevin Durant come to LeBron James’ aid?

While it is understandable why LeBron acted the way he did, fans were left wondering why Kevin Durant took a dig at Perkins despite them being teammates for several years at OKC. Once really good buddies, the two have not shared a very friendly relationship since KD took his talents to the Warriors, eight years ago. Still hurt by Durant’s move, Perkins has criticized his former teammate publicly multiple times on social media and on television.

From calling Russell Westbrook the best OKC player to deeming KD a “coward” for joining a 73-win team, Perkins has fired multiple shots at the Slim Reaper. Even last year, the two went back and forth on a social media thread where Perkins questioned Durant’s abilities by pointing out that he once lost in the second round without Russ in OKC. In response, Durant wrote, “Yea and our starting center Kendrick Perkins averaged a whopping 2 and 3 during that series. U played hard tho champ lol.”

With those kinds of recent interactions, it comes as no surprise that Durant was the first to call out Perkins’ response when he compared himself to “Jesus” after LeBron unfollowed him.
