Durant's huddle talk turned the game around—can any other player match his impact under pressure?

As the USA looked frantic, trying their best to beat Serbia, their streak of 4 consecutive gold seemed like it was coming to an end. But those 40 minutes, rather the last quarter will go down in history as Kevin Durant, LeBron James, and Stephen Curry made history at Bercy Arena in Paris. The Dream Team got a hold of its defenses, picked up their broken pieces, and managed to win in the clutch time. The glorious moment was followed by Americans shouting at the top of their voices, with our stars on the ground, revved up in a huddle.

And if you’re curious like us to know what they said in that huddle, well, Kevin Durant has you covered“We just wanted to get it to single digit by seven minutes, that’s what we were talking about.”

Obviously, coming back from a 13-point deficit against a three-time league MVP like Jokic was no easy task. And it took some special performances from Steph, LeBron, and Embiid to get the job done. “We looked up, we down five with like seven minutes to go. I’m like alright, we in a good spot right now,” KD remarked. And that’s when Team USA tightened their defense to increase the pressure on the Serbian team and tied the game at 84-84 with less than four minutes remaining.

Moreover, their on-court chemistry was through the roof in the final minutes as KD said, “We barely called plays. We just played off of each other. Well, you know it was a lot of non-verbal actions out there. Guys just knew where each other were gonna be on both ends of the floor. It was special.” After trailing for most of the game, Team USA successfully finished their comeback by outscoring Serbia 32-15 in the fourth and won 95-91.

And the last couple of minutes is where the magic actually happened. Chef Curry literally cooked on the hardwood floor.

Stephen Curry stole the show in Paris

While Team USA cruised through the group stage and quarter-final, Stephen Curry remained rather quiet throughout the first four games. His shots weren’t falling the way they usually do and fans were waiting for a tremendous performance from the Baby-Faced Assassin. Sure enough, Steph had saved his best for the last as he delivered at the biggest stage when his team needed him the most.

Finally, finding his rhythm against Nikola Jokić and Co., Curry went off in the semi-final and dropped 36 points in the thrilling encounter. Moreover, he made 9 crucial three-pointers on just fourteen attempts and proved why he is the best shooter in the world.

Even his former teammate Kevin Durant was mesmerized by Steph’s performance, “We talked about each game somebody has to step up and it might be your night, and he came and had the best night out of anybody the whole tournament. So incredible to watch him knock down shots to keep us afloat.”

Hopefully, this amazing comeback performance from Team USA will ignite a fire in them for the final encounter against France as they fight for gold on August 11.
