The contentions between an elite scorer like Kevin Durant and the Phoenix Suns have finally come out after a much-talked-about report from the Athletic. The steam leaking from the locker room after the Suns’ loss against the Clippers on April 9 spread throughout the NBA community. Apart from the dissatisfied players, there were even hearsays that Kevin Durant was not happy with the state of offense and his role in it. Or more precisely, it can be said that Durant was frustrated with all of it. Although the team won the next game against the LA Clippers on April 11, 2024. It was not the same as ever for the team anymore.
Soon afterward Frank Vogel got fired and later Kevin Durant‘s trade rumors caught wind in the trade market this offseason. The 35-year-old shut down all those rumors as he claimed them all “lies”. However, it seems that everything was not a lie at all. He did have some problems with his offensive role on the team and its planning. The 2x All-Star MVP spoke to Arizona Sports on Tuesday at Las Vegas where he commented on the stagnant offensive flow at the Suns, “If we struggling on offense and the ball is not moving and your best players aren’t being put in a position or in space to showcase their skill — that’s with anybody.”
Adding to his agony, KD emphasized how the offensive pillars of the Suns, Bradley Beal, and Devin Booker could not play well to their potential. “I ain’t like when Book was in the corner a lot or if Brad was sitting around a lot. We just stood around. I think you could make more options or we (could have) had more movement in our offense.” Nevertheless, Durant cleared that it was not basketball that he was frustrated about. However, he was more concerned about the style of play of the Suns which he thinks Mike Budenholzer is working at currently.

Kevin Durant’s thoughts on Mike Budenholzer taking head coach position at the Phoenix Suns
Notably, Mike Budenholzer took charge as a coach of the Phoenix Suns on May 11 this year. And the 54-year-old is already working to prepare the Suns offense for the next season as per Durant. “I think [new head coach Mike Budenholzer] has been watching film of what we did last year to try to incorporate some of those things that worked for us and try to finetune some of the things that didn’t.” It seems that Kevin has high hopes for the NBA Champion who won the San Antonio Spurs 4 championships as assistant coach and brought Milwaukee Bucks their third championship as head coach.
Adding further comments on the new coach, Durant expressed that he is excited as Mike is an experienced veteran in the league as a coach. Also, he’s got experience with different kinds of players over his two-decades-long stint in the coaching department. That’s why KD has been in constant touch with Mike all this summer. “Just trying to get to know one another so we can help each other out once the season starts, “ Durant stated his purpose of staying in touch with the new coach.
