Long-lasting friendships are a rare phenomenon these days. However, when it comes to Kevin Durant, the NBA player continues to maintain his ride-or-die bond with renowned Canadian rapper Drake. Having been friends for more than a decade, the duo have often publicly reaffirmed their bond in their own manner. While Drake gave out shoutouts, Durant would respond to the same in interviews by going “When your favorite rapper puts your name in a song, it makes you feel like you’ve made it.” Now, with the Canadian’s feud with Kendrick Lamar looking to not die down anytime soon, Durant continues to put out his support even from across the pond!

Taking to his official X account, a social media user unexpectedly proceeded to criticize Kevin Durant. According to the remark, the user holds the belief that the NBA player’s friendship with Drake prevents him from being “tough.” The Phoenix Suns star is currently in the midst of one of the most crucial moments of his international career, representing Team USA at the 2024 Paris Olympics and looking to lock down his fourth Olympic gold medal. Despite this, as his close friend’s name got invoked, Durant went on to respond within just 19 minutes of the remark being put out.

“Shutup lame” wrote the 35-year-old player. The social media user, going by the name of Alpha Kabiné, had several posts on his feed, with a pinned one highlighting Kendrick Lamar’s diss over Drake. Therefore, with his response, Kevin Durant defended the rapper and may have also reaffirmed his stance on the ongoing feud between the rappers.

The onset of 2024 saw a return to the long-running beef between Drake and 37-year-old rap star Kendrick Lamar. The latter proceeded to add fuel to the fire by releasing a couple of diss tracks about the Canadian, making references of some of the alleged claims against him. One of them, titled ‘Not Like Us’ reached #1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 Charts.

Durant’s allegiance with Drake was initially brought under question after the Suns star was seen attending Lamar’s ‘Pop Out’ concert back in mid-June. However, he wasn’t the only one to do so, as his counterparts LeBron James, Russell Westbrook, DeMar DeRozan, and James Harden also joined him. Unlike LeBron and Westbrook however, no footage was captured of Durant vibing to the tracks. Furthermore, if any issues arose from Durant attending the concert, he made up for it days later by flying 2,213 miles, from Phoenix to Toronto, to celebrate Canada Day with Drake at ‘The Embassy’ residence. Furthermore, even Kevin Durant’s elder brother, Tony, would publicly admit that ‘Not Like Us’ “is trash LMAO.”

The above-mentioned instances continue to be just a few examples of the NBA player standing besides his friend. While they didn’t have Durant endorsing Drake’s skills as a rapper, he would make up for that on other occasions as well.

How has Kevin Durant supported Drake during his feud with Kendrick Lamar?

Back in March 2024, just as signs indicated a return to the feud between the rappers, Drake uploaded a post to respond to Lamar’s ‘Like That’ track. Highlighting a series of pictures of him clad in black, the Canadian wrote a caption alongside the post that stated “They rather go to war with me than admit they are their own worst enemy.” Joining the fans in being aware of who the rapper was referencing through his caption, Kevin Durant responded by writing “Real sh*t” in the comments section.

On the 21 of July, Kevin Durant took to his official Instagram account. Out of the blue, he highlighted a picture of Drake standing alongside 49-year-old musician 50-Cent. Displaying the same for his 13.5 million followers, Durant added two goat emojis alongside the picture to hand the duo the ultimate honor.
