When the final 12 of Team USA was announced, there were a few who believed there could have been changes to the roster. But when everyone saw these 12 men stand shoulder-to-shoulder, proudly wearing the Stars and Stripes jersey, quite a few were transported over 30 years back in time. Yup! After the 1992 Dream Team, no group has ever come close until the 2024 Team USA.

Suffice it to say that fans have a hard time focusing on just one with the kind of talent the US boasts this year in the Olympics. Even so, there is still one player who has yet to take the court – Kevin Durant.

The 3x gold medalist had been dealing with a calf strain as early as last month during Team USA’s training camp. They listed him as day-to-day since then. Although there was hope that KD would suit come game time, fans had to be disappointed. The ‘Slim Reaper’ continued to rest and rehab as his fellow athletes managed a 3-0 record in the Showcase.

But what is the latest update on Kevin Durant? ESPN insider Brian Windhorst comes bearing good news. In his appearance on ‘NBA Today’, Windhorst paused his insightful takes to provide a “minor update”.

Kevin Durant is making progress, getting closer, is what Steve Kerr said. I’m not sure we’re going to see him on Saturday in London. The team flies to London tomorrow, but it seems like he’s making progress,” the veteran analyst shared.

Yes, all signs do point to the team giving him as much time as needed to be fully healthy in time for the Olympics. Yet, there is still that itch to want to watch one of the greatest in the field showcase his prowess on international soil. You get the idea. So, Windhorst’s minor update was certainly welcome!

The Suns’ owner echoes hope in the public regarding Kevin Durant

KD is one of the most decorated basketball players in the league right now. Despite finding himself in hot water for his bold stances, he does not let it define his successful career or his unwavering confidence. And one result of such steadfastness is his spectacular Olympics resume. Until Durant, Carmelo Anthony remained unchallenged on Mount Olympus of the Olympics.

What’s your perspective on:

Will Kevin Durant's comeback silence his critics once and for all?

Have an interesting take?

While he remains tied with Melo as 3x gold medalist, the 2x champion surpassed Anthony to become the all-time leader in points. Durant has scored 435 points in eight fewer games than the ex-Thunder forward. So, the palpable anticipation of the crowd to see Kevin Durant up and running is understandable. The man could very well create history this year as the first male athlete to win four gold medals in any team sport should Team USA strike gold!

Now that is something no one would want to miss! While it is certainly enticing, it isn’t the only reason why Mat Ishbia would be in France. “We’re part of each other’s team, part of each other’s lives, supporting our team… I know they just played earlier today and how Kevin is not playing, but he’ll be playing soon, hopefully. I hope they bring home the gold for USA,” the Suns’ owner said in a recent episode of The Pat McAfee Show.

We are sure many would relate to Ishbia’s line of thought. After all, the chances of seeing a team like this in any near future are highly unlikely. We did have to wait 32 years to see a squad worthy of dubbing as the ‘Dream Team II’. Thoughts?
