Kevin Durant leaves himself out of the Big Three—Is he being too humble or just realistic?

Kevin Durant, the two-time champ and former MVP, has reached his veteran days. KD has been one of the most consistent and lethal scorers to have ever played. Playing alongside Stephen Curry, Kyrie Irving, Russell Westbrook, and various other stars, Durant has come to a point where younger stars in the league now look up to him. But why does that matter? For starters, the league gradually has new faces who are taking over, whereas the vets are looking to make the last stretch before they retire.

Durant is one of them. However, the good thing is that he is well aware of what’s going on around him. Didn’t understand? Don’t worry. Recently, Kevin partnered with Logan Paul and KSI’s energy drink, Prime Hydrate. He was given a warm welcome after Logan invited him to Impaulsive, his podcast. Of course, Durant talked a lot about his future and all sorts of interests. However, he also listed his version of the current Big 3 in the NBA.

Now, there are players, especially youngsters, who are making a name for themselves. But when it comes to experienced talent, there aren’t many still plying their trade day in and day out. “I mean, if you could look at it, you could say LeBron, Steph, myself. I mean the NBA is different, bro. Ain’t no big threes. It’s like a big 30. Especially now, everybody going their own brands.”

“It’s a lot moving in the league. But the three oldest that’s still like playing at a high level are probably me, Bron, Steph, Kawhi, PG. It’s like a lot of guys bro, it’s hard to just put three in there.”, Durant said. Logan Paul then built on that point, adding, “Longevity in any sport,” to which Durant immediately responded, “Yeah”.

There is no denying KD’s statements, after knowing how far these three have come. This particular trio’s accolades combine 10 championships, 7 NBA MVPs, and 7 Finals MVP awards too. And in the present, this Big 3 is teaming up to play for Team USA in Paris. LeBron will turn 40 after entering his 22nd season. On the other hand, Steph turned 36 and so will KD. It’s clear that these legends are aging and are nearing the end of their careers.

But they’re still as good as they were. While they are veterans, they are also among the top players in the league. The trio has proven their longevity, especially LeBron James. For the majority of the fans, it won’t be usual to watch the league anymore once all three of them call it a day. However, they’re yet to make a title run. Following their current run, which as expected by many, will result in a Gold at the Olympics, it’d be about time to then prepare for the next season.

Kevin Durant and the Suns have better chances!

Out of the Lakers, the Warriors, and the Suns, Phoenix has the best chance of winning it all. Why is that? Well, the squad has three All-Stars, who at the time haven’t gelled together well enough. Surely, if Booker, Beal, and KD are on the right track, the Suns will be more than a considerable threat in the West. Durant is consistent with his performance as always. The Slim Reaper has been criticized a lot for winning a championship in Golden State. Yes, he had Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson to work with.

However, in Phoenix, even though he has two stars alongside him, there is a lot of work to be done. The most recent piece of news coming out of the Suns was after they inked a deal with Monte Morris, as called by Shams Charania. He’s been a reliable point guard, averaging 10 points and 39% from deep overall.

If the Slim Reaper manages to win another ring, it would solidify his career accolades, shutting all the doubters. Hopefully, Kevin Durant pulls off the same in Phoenix, but if things don’t improve, there are slight chances that he might wear his 5th jersey. While addressing that ‘career coming to an end’ question, he confidently declared, “I just love to play the game. If it’s a good situation, if I’m still enjoying the game of basketball, my goal is to play this (game) till the wheels fall off, for whatever role that is, so we’ll see.”

It will be interesting to see either LeBron, Steph, or KD win a Championship before they draw the curtain on their glorious careers. Moreover, it’d be more intriguing to watch them win a Gold for the US this year too!

What are your thoughts on the said Big 3? Who out of them will win a ring before their retirement? Let us know in the comments.
